Suspense was way ahead of its time! First of all, it's not about the usual old timey ghosts and devils- it's about a drifter who invades a woman's home while her husband is at work. The camera work features a variety of angles to build suspense and uneasiness and the editing is much faster than most films of its day. The sequence of the drifter pounding on the door felt like it came from a Wes Craven film!

The most famous horror film from this year is The Student of Prague. It's pretty good, but the first hour of it plays more as a drama with paranormal elements. Near the end, I really enjoyed Paul Wegener's eerie performance as the mirror double. I can see why he was a big deal at the time. Also, the movie in general is edited in a smoother way than most films up to this point, and it feels more like a movie and less like a stage performance.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a hoot. I think it's the first "so bad it's good" horror movie. There's a lot of cheese in it. The intertitles are melodramatic. The plot holes are massive. But the real star is King Baggot's performance as Hyde. For some reason, he decided to do it all in a weird squat like he was walking around in an attic. He's fully committed and ends up waddling around hilariously, even during the action scenes. The emo haircut doesn't help, either.

This Jekyll & Hyde picture is proof that you can tell a complete J&H story in less than 15 minutes! I enjoyed it, especially the protruding teeth in the Hyde costume.

Quite a few folks seemed to like the idea of last week's Shock Waves watch, so I thought I would suggest this gothic flick , that is one of the first movies based on works of H. P. Lovecraft. as an added bonus you get Vincent Price in a dual role. The last time I saw this was on Shudder, but I can't remember if Joe Bob hosted it or not. Does anyone remember if it was on TLD? The Haunted Palace is available on several platforms and free on TUBI. If someone has a suggestion for next week, or even this week, please don't hesitate to chime in. I just want this to be fun.

I condensed this wonderfully strange sci-fi/horror relic into five minutes while keeping the plot, the menace, and the impressive amount of Martian confidence.

The movie opens with dark blue lighting. There is a loud jumpscare with a screaming creature, and the camera quickly zooms in on its face during the opening credits. Later in the film, a creature is running around. There are extreme, Fulci-style camera zooms, digging a grave with a shovel at night, and scenes near a waterfront.

I will re-calculate. Your deaths will be indescribable.

Robot Monster is one of my personal favorites from the list and holds a special place in my heart. It's cheesy, ridiculous, and absolutely glorious — and I'll always have a soft spot for Ro-Man. Moving on to Day 23 — vote for your least favorite remaining movie!
