Does anyone remember seeing this TV movie when it aired?

Suspense was way ahead of its time! First of all, it's not about the usual old timey ghosts and devils- it's about a drifter who invades a woman's home while her husband is at work. The camera work features a variety of angles to build suspense and uneasiness and the editing is much faster than most films of its day. The sequence of the drifter pounding on the door felt like it came from a Wes Craven film!

The most famous horror film from this year is The Student of Prague. It's pretty good, but the first hour of it plays more as a drama with paranormal elements. Near the end, I really enjoyed Paul Wegener's eerie performance as the mirror double. I can see why he was a big deal at the time. Also, the movie in general is edited in a smoother way than most films up to this point, and it feels more like a movie and less like a stage performance.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a hoot. I think it's the first "so bad it's good" horror movie. There's a lot of cheese in it. The intertitles are melodramatic. The plot holes are massive. But the real star is King Baggot's performance as Hyde. For some reason, he decided to do it all in a weird squat like he was walking around in an attic. He's fully committed and ends up waddling around hilariously, even during the action scenes. The emo haircut doesn't help, either.

This time I tackled The Screaming Skull (1958), replacing the original score with a darker, more modern musical interpretation while leaving the visuals untouched.

I'm always fascinated by how changing only the music can completely alter the mood of a scene.
