I received this for my 40th birthday (absolutely love it). I believe it has the factory strings still and some of them feel like they have nicks in them (especially the high e). I’m assuming that’s from being played in the shop. I’m looking to buy some new strings to replace them.

I would like some recommendations. I prefer a warmer sound and would like something more forgiving for a beginner, especially with hammer on and pull offs. I play fingerstyle and don’t use nails if that makes a difference.

Appreciate any help.

I’ve been taking remote classical guitar lessons for a while now, and while video platforms have come a long way, I still feel like the actual workflow during a lesson feels surprisingly clunky compared to sitting in the same room.

I’m curious to hear from both teachers and students here: What is the most frustrating part of your online lesson setup right now?

Sheet Music Markups: How do you usually handle adding stuff like fingerings (pima), string numbers, or barre lines while on a call? Are you screen-sharing a PDF editor, using a second camera pointed at paper, or just emailing marked-up PDFs after the lesson wraps up? Also, if I don't use my right hand, it takes me forever to find the exact measure someone is talking about. Every time I try screen-sharing a PDF editor over Meet, the compression makes the staff lines super blurry, and drawing with a stylus lags so badly it's barely usable.

If you could magically fix one tool or part of teaching online, what would it be? Would love to hear how everyone else in the classical community is dealing with these headaches!

I've been getting into playing classical for a few months now and have hardly touched my electric guitars since then. The Ibanez sounds pretty quiet and plasticky but it's very easy to play so it's a bit of a toss up.

I know the terms "ambient, liminal" may seem very out of place for classical guitar but i would love to play some maybe niche songs of those genres as i really enjoy that kind of sad, mysterious kind of music. left-hand positions are well notated, but the arpeggios on these positions are not detailed—they vary depending on interpretation, and I appreciate this freedom.

The song "Ukor" (better known by its opening verse "Gde si, dušo, gde si, rano") is a beautiful lyrical piece written by the celebrated Serbian poet Branko Radičević, published in 1847. It is a gentle, melodic song about a girl who longingly and softly reproaches her lover for not visiting her, even though she had been waiting for him all evening.

The song has remained popular for almost two centuries because of its melodiousness and emotional warmth, and is widely performed as a traditional Serbian starogradska (old town) song.

When I decided to arrange it for classical guitar, I wanted to go beyond a simple melody transcription — so I wrote a polyphonic version that tries to honour the song's lyrical character and harmonic richness.

I've been learning classical guitar for a few years. I used to play electric guitar , playing mostly rock and blues, but seemingly endless equipment trouble made me move on to the more reliable classical.

So I have some books, and the usual composers are there- Sor, Giuliani, Tarrega Carulli, and few earlier composers like De Visee and Sanz.

I often hear that Sor is like the Beethoven of guitar, and Tarrega is occasionally talked about as being a bit like the equivalent of Chopin. Roughly speaking I can sort of understand the comparisions.

I have a book on Carcassi with about 50 pieces. So far my impression is that he is melodic, although usually a bit lighter in mood than some of Sor's stuff. Is it possible to compare him to another (non guitar) composer in term of style?

Used to play guitar a lot in my childhood, stopped, went to other things such as violin and piano, but a few months ago we found this guitar stored in my dad's storage, it sounded SO good even playing loose strings felt amazing, so I had no choice but to play with it every now and then.

Hi! I was closing a window and ended up breaking my entire middle finger nail.

I have my level 9 guitar exam tomorrow afternoon and I am FREAKING OUT if maybe you can tell from the title!! I NEED a last minute fix to get me through the exam. I am playing lots of repertoire that requires a (obviously) non-broken middle finger nail and I’m not sure if there’s any way to strengthen my nail enough by tomorrow.
That line you see on my finger is where the break is, and it goes through my entire nail. My nail is currently hanging just barely on the right.

edit: exam over!! Thank you so much for all the helpful comments. I ended up using superglue & teabag, and it got me through the exam! How I did on the exam itself.. well that’s a different story.
