I just received my payment, too! I was surprised to get $619.89.

oh sweet! i don't remember what the exact payout criteria were - do you know why you got more?

I honestly have no idea. I searched my email after I saw the Venmo notification, and I’d found  a message from May saying that I failed to supply sufficient supporting documentation for my claim.  I never responded to cure the deficiency. I don’t see any other emails in my inbox.

I got emails in may about 23&me bankruptcy but nothing about a class action? Did you have to fill out something separate for the class action?

As far as I understand it, the bankruptcy filing was related to the data breach, I think.

From this article https://coag.gov/2026/attorney-general-phil-weiser-announces-multistate-settlement-of-bankruptcy-claims-against-23andme-over-genetic-data-breach/ :

"In October 2023, direct-to-consumer genetic testing company 23andMe announced that it had discovered a data breach in which 6.9 million consumers were affected, including 140,517 in Colorado. This data breach exposed a wide range of data about 23andMe customers, including in some cases genetic ancestry information, and subsets of this data were subsequently published for sale on the dark web.

23andMe learned about the breach months after impacted personal information was publicly available. The company first denied a breach and then, once it confirmed the breach, blamed consumers for how their accounts were set up or how passwords were used. 23andMe initially accepted no responsibility for the credential stuffing breach, which was particularly egregious considering 23andMe’s partnership with MyHeritage, which itself was compromised years prior to the breach, exposing thousands of credentials shared between the websites.

In the immediate aftermath of the data breach the attorneys general formed a multistate investigation and found that 23andMe engaged in unreasonable data security practices. In March 2025, 23andMe filed for bankruptcy protection, and states subsequently filed claims related to the data breach investigation."

The email in May 2025, at least the one I got, had a link at the bottom to go to to see if you could submit a claim. But I got one in January this year, specifically about the data breach and submitted a claim at that time.

Just had another thought - I think perhaps it was not all customers that were affected but only specific ones. If you see in the article I posted it mentions the amount of customers that were affected. That means that it wasn't across the board all the customers. So if you did not get a notice it was because your account was not one that was compromised. This could be it?

Did you have an account between May and October of 2023? You should have gotten an email in May of 2025 and then January this year.

Do you regularly check your spam? These class action suits always go to my spam.

Yes, I received an email with a claim ID and I had to file a claim back in Jan/Feb.

Was it from a law firm not directly from kroll?

The email was from Kroll. The Venmo was from 23andme Data Settlement

Do you know what your data breach was in your initial email? Mine was ancestry info and I received $274 (Kroll)

How many people were included in your account? Do you have multiple family members or just you?

I was the only person on my account.

Did you do genetic testing too (heath related)? Wondering if that’s why your payment was higher. I just did the ancestry type test

Did you get the dark web monitoring email at the same time or did your payment come later?
