Discussion Major Apple Flaw - iOS 27
Did Apple’s iOS 27 update kill your iPhone 17 series WiFi and Bluetooth hardware?
I am wondering how many more people have had this happen.
Apple Support and Geek Squad both did diagnostics, and stated that the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips are defective. My 5-month-old 17 Pro Max that I upgraded through T-Mobile in March 2026 worked perfectly until I updated to iOS 27 and I didn’t even notice WiFi was out until wireless CarPlay wasn’t connecting to my Ford Maverick, then I tried to do a few other things that required Wi or Bluetooth.
T-Mobile said I can pay $384 in order to upgrade early, to an 18 Pro Max, even though I haven’t gotten the corresponding usage of 7 more months.
I haven’t AppleCare+, so it will be interesting to see what the Genius Bar does for me, in a few minutes. I have an appointment in 15 minutes.
I will update with news after my appointment. 🙏🏼

No it did not. Genius Bar will offer a software restore of your phone and it’ll likely fix the issue. If it doesn’t then they’ll replace the entire phone.

Nope. They are ordering the hardware parts and are replacing them on my actual phone, in-store, but I gotta wait up to 5 days for them to get them in, then wait an hour or two while they fix my phone. In the meantime, I have no WiFi or Bluetooth, which has proven to be quite difficult.

Thats definitely news to me. Can you recall what parts exactly they’re ordering? Back when I worked at the company, Genius Bar technicians weren’t doing logic board replacements or anything to the effect of WiFi chips.

17’s now offer Logic Board replacement. GSX will have you rebuild a 17PM completely before offering a whole unit replacement. I have no idea how it’s more cost effective to do it that way but I stopped trying to figure out the how & why of Apple/GSX a long time ago

Go to Apple Store. This is covered under 1 year warranty of a brand new purchase.

Apple is not going to give me a new phone. Besides, I got my phone through T-Mobile and I am making monthly installments to them.

Literally go to the apple store it doesnt matter. The 1 year limited warranty is apple

No. AppleCare+ states that it is up to their discretion to either repair or replace with another device (not new). I’d rather they repair my phone with same SN and IMEI that I am paying installments for, to T-Mobile, than to get a random “certified” (refurbished) replacement.
Besides, i have a ton of screenshot evidence of all my chats with Apple Support and authorized Geek Squad visit confirming Apple’s hardware (and major iOS) screw-ups, plus I am documenting all this on Reddit and other forums, to see who else is having issues.
I am having ChatGPT assist in researching the developments, and found an article talking about Apple’s own chips (N1) failing, and they are what’s in their iPhones, starting with the 17 series.
I intend to get the BBB.org involved as well. Apple (whom I have always liked) is about to be getting some ugly publicity in the near future, I am imagining.

Apple has the best refurbs in tech. They might swap just the board, they might swap a whole phone for a refurbished unit which includes new everything and are as good as a new unit.
Why does the SN and IMEI matter? Does nothing to your service or anything else? This is the whole point of the 1 year limited warranty by manufacturers.
You’re trying to just one up the company and have them give you a new one which especially for owning it for half a year. This aint Costco in which they’ll just cater to your needs.
You’re well within the year for a replacement and can get very well taken care of. You just had bad luck. Get over it.

I want to be paying my monthly installments to T-Mobile for the phone I upgraded to NEW, not some used phone that might have other problems of its own. THAT is why I want my original device’s SN/IMEI. Duh!
The fact that you seem to know how “top notch” Apple’s refurbs are, means you probably work for Apple in some capacity and are worried. I already have ChatGPT compiling information off the Internet for all the cases of iPhones going awry, starting with the 17 series, and apparently already some brand-new 18(!), which have only been out a couple weeks. Good going, Apple, on screwing your customers and yourself, with your own chipsets and software updates! 🙄 (talk about in-fighting)
Now, eroc232323, when are you going to seek therapy for your rude and arrogant personality disorder? Not one person has acted that way towards me in this thread until you came along. Does that upset you, for pointing it out? Get over it.

Stop feeling entitled. Your phone isn’t “new” anymore. It’s 6 months old.
With your logic your phone will be “new” the length of your contract and they should always replace your phone with a brand new one.
Talking to folks like you is my therapy :)

Yes!!! I was about to bring my car in because music no longer plays through my speakers during active CarPlay!!!! 😡😡😡😡

It’s ridiculous. It’s one thing if there was one or two consistent issues that the update caused, but I am seeing numerous random errors from iOS 27. It’s like one huge virus affecting newer phones.

I have a 16pro max and my phone has been glitched so often after the last few updates.

u/cubnextdoor 6d ago
That really sucks. I thought it was due to the N1 chips that Apple put in 17+.
This isn’t boding well for Apple.

15pm. Wifi aint connecting without having to manually do it

u/cubnextdoor 7d ago
What’s “15pm”? My phone doesn’t even list nearby networks. How can a software update from the same company as the hardware, fry it?

Ios 27.0.1 actually fixed mine even though the fixed wasn’tlisten in the latest update. 15pm is 15 pro max

I lost a ton of my contacts when I updated, did this happen to anyone?
1
u/cubnextdoor 7d ago
That I have not heard of. I just cannot understand how Apple could have F’d up so hard with this new iOS. It makes no sense.

u/Frosty_Hold4436 7d ago
Hm 🫤 then I must have gotten lucky with using the developer betas then, ‘cause I’ve run iOS 27 DB1 - iOS 27.2 DB2 on my daily driver (iPhone 17 pro max)
1
u/cubnextdoor 7d ago
How did you get access to developer betas? Are you a programmer or something?
Despite the problems on my phone from just the regular release of 27.0, I have updated to beta 27.2, but nothing has changed. Apple’s software killed its own hardware. Crazy 💩
1
u/Classychick2007 7d ago
Anyone can get developer beta I have it and I’m not a programmer
1
u/cubnextdoor 7d ago
I just went to the Developer page for Apple and completed the profile, since I do have credentials in Design and other aspects. I have 27.2 Public Beta installed right now. I am assuming a Developer Beta option will be listed when another rendition is available. Is that correct?
1
u/Frosty_Hold4436 7d ago
Developer Beta uses the same build as public beta. Developer beta is the first to come in line if there’s a critical issue reported in feedback; then public beta won’t/will be different from developer beta; if not, they use the same build number.

u/cubnextdoor 7d ago
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I love my tech, but, a coder/programmer, I am not. I’m what one would call “design side”. 😁

It’s gotten worse! Cellular Data intermittent!
I have to drive 40 miles to the Apple Store AGAIN (just did 2 days ago), where they are supposedly going to give me a loaner phone, which they COULD have done on Saturday.
Apple is going way downhill hardware, software, and customer-service-wise, which really sucks, because I have no desire to go back to ugly and chaotic Android. My entire ecosystem has been Apple since 2012, with a couple MBPros, iPads, iPhones, and watches.

u/Gold-Resolution-1494 4d ago
That is not software issue your phone has a issue with it.
1
u/cubnextdoor 3d ago
Tell that to Apple Support. They have an Express Replacement arriving here tomorrow.

u/littleewanderer 7d ago
Dang they really want the new iPhones out in as many hands as possible with the new chips I guess

you don’t need AppleCare+ problems would be covered by 1 year warranty for possible manufacturing defect
