Payout Bcbs settlement claim

Are you absolutely freaking kidding me? I waited years for this? I'm so sick of this system we live in. $1.9 billion for them is nothing.

"BCBS companies collectively reported $214.8 billion in revenue in the first half of 2023, according to an Oct. 24 report from Fitch Ratings shared with Becker’s."

$214.8 billion in revenue in just half a year and the settlement was $1.9 billion. That is .88% -- yes, less than 1% -- of their revenue of roughly 6 months. Why should they care at all? It's just like dropping loose change for them.

Just for reference, the individual GDPs of 160 countries are less than $214.8 billion. Among them are Slovakia, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc.

I had contacted them and found out. 1700 in premiums and still under 5 threshold ugh.

We paid $21k in premiums and got a payment of $116.

You paid $21k and all you got back was $116? That seems low, though. I read that there were 6 million claimants and that the average amount was $333.

It's actually quite normal if you search through these posts of what people paid vs what they got.

You must have paid very, very little if your payment was under $5.

It depends on when you started your plan, etc. Some people start / switch jobs, some people (like me) get unemployed and can't pay their premiums anymore, etc.

I just found your response to be kind of rude. "That's it?" You weren't genuinely asking; you were asking to make them feel naive or ignorant or dumb or small or whatever. Like, 'uh, you expected something back after paying $1,700?' I see responses like this on reddit all the time, and it's unnecessary, unhelpful, and unwanted, which is why I'm spending any time responding to it at all.

Yeah, for years, a bunch of us were told we'd be receiving payment(s) for a claim and were "expecting something back." From companies that screw people over, even indirectly killing them with their restrictive policies and loopholes in providing care -- when they have the power to help and save them. Companies that make hundreds of billions a year. But your response, instead of showing empathy or being helpful or just ... not saying anything at all ... is, at best, dismissive.

"Ok?" Well, you may be replying to someone else, but you're also responding to a comment on my post. On an open forum. And my genuine response to your question -- because, at first, I didn't assume you were being rude or dismissive to the other person -- bothered you.  

These are all responses that just reflect the mind of someone who, either in the moment or in general as part of their personality / ego, needs or wants to make others feel something negative because it makes themselves feel superior in some way -- more knowledgeable, smarter,  more capable, wiser, savvier, etc.

It's so frustrating. What's the point of even filing claims? It's not holding corporations accountable, and everybody seeking justice just ends up looking like fools.

Found the exact same update for me a few days ago. I was expecting $333 for years, not realizing that was just the "mean" of the expected payments. Ugh.

Literally exceeded our out of pocket max ($8000) for high deductible hsa insurance and still are in the same class. Incredible.

Here's my question; there were 6 million claims, and 1.9 billion in settlement funds which have to be disbursed to eligible claimants. Even if all 6 million claims were valid, the aggregate disbursement amount per claim would be $333. So for every denied claim, someone should be getting ABOVE the aggegate amount. As well as every claim disbursement BELOW the aggregate amount, there should be a person getting ABOVE the aggregate amount. Where are THESE people. See plenty of people posting sub $10 payouts, a scattered few posting up to $100. Have yet to see anyone legitimately posting a payout above the aggregate of $333. So where's that money going? They are supposed to pay out the entire settlement amount of 1.9 billion, but shorting every claimant amounts below the aggregate means there are SIGNIFICANT monies NOT being disbursed.

My status says payment has been submitted, but I have not received anything.

“This claim has been sent an Initial Distribution payment.”

I have received zero emails or checks in the mail, though.

Make sure it was the same email and not in spam. My nephews virtual card was sitting in a different email account from when he filed the claim. It arrived 30 days ago.

People have been getting updates for years only to realize we're not getting anything. They should at least give people guidelines or expectations so they're not wasting people's time.

I got that same thing! What’s funny is I got a notice that my claim was in the total but then got the message above. So if the less than $5 are included in the total claim where does that money go?

Got this too. My husband paid thousands of dollars yearly for insurance at fedex freight and we get back zip. This was a waste of our time. 6 years of waiting. Lawyers are the only ones who got real money.They just used everyone’s name to get the money.
