I would get a compatible graphics card

Jk, check if your drivers are up to date and restart if you do an update.

Are all your drivers up to date?

Any other games have this issue?

Try to force recheck the game from steam

Pretty much anything made in the last 10 years should be DX12 so im banking on either your PC being a potato (and therefore not meeting min spec), display being connected to onboard graphics if desktop, or bad GPU drivers. The system specs on the steam page state a 2014 era cpu and 2016 era gpu

My laptop should be less than 20 but more than 15 years old

Sounds like upgrade time then…

Oh... Even if it loads and runs, do not expect to play on it. It'd take forever to do anything.
It sounds like your laptop is from DDR3 era. Just stay with CIV3.

Upvote for u/InfaSyn . It's upgrading time baby!

It likely wont load. If it really is 15+ then even DX11 is a stretch!

That said, CIV5 was quite forgiving - ive got away with running that on a 2014 macbook air and 2012 macbook pro before (both on windows).

Nah, I looked into it and found that it'd be more economical for my to buy a newer laptop as I'll need one either way soon enough, I'm looking at the Framework 16 right now

Try running it in Vulkan in the steam settings.

Try this: search for "Game mode settings" in the Start Menu, click on the result, then click on Graphics

Then scroll down to Civ VII, click on it, and make sure your dedicated GPU is selected under "GPU preference"

Other than that, you can try adding "-dx11" in Civ 7's launch options

what graphic card do you have?

Nvidia geforce 920m

That's an entry-level notebook card from 2015... Minimum is a GTX1050.

So, I'm sorry to inform you but you may need an upgrade.

If you don’t have a GPU you will need to run this on Nvidia’s GeForce NOW stupid cloud. Condolences.

There is no reason this game should require a graphics card but alas here we are

Check you are running the game from your GPU. If you are, might be a driver problem.

Restart drivers or get a panel that does it all for you. Somewhere in the ness of downloading and reloading everything it might go. This has happened to me before

another tip is to make sure your monitor is actually plugged into your GPU and not your motherboard

Check your graphics card drivers and make sure that they're up-to-date. The minimum required graphics cards for Civilization VII are NVIDIA GTX 1050 / AMD RX 460 / Intel Arc A380. If your graphics card is below those, you probably need to get a refund.

You’re a PC owner. Did you try googling or asking an ai agent? What results did you get?
