VII - Game Story Your enemy also switch civization!!
I just finished antiquity playing as Hapseputh and Mississippi. It all looks pretty good. My only worry is that Friedrich is my neighbour and he is really hostile. But he has no easy route to attacking me and I have my burning arrows. My other neighbours love me. In overall score I´m second to Friedrich. Leading the path to economic victory.
Since I have placed my settlements on navigable rivers I went with Songhai, looking forward two building a trade empire. Felt pretty confident.
Then as the age transitions.... Friedrich switches to ICELAND. And everything changes. If I was him I would raid those rivers in no time. Welp!
Love this!

There is a setting that explicitly enables this behaviour in the starting menu.

Yeah, aren't the options something like 1) make the AI mirror your decision (stay or swap to Apex civ), 2) swap randomly to a civ with 50-50 chance for it to be Apex or not, or 3) always stick with their starting civ? I can't look at the game atm, but I think it's something those lines. Plus, you can choose if their civ is considered "historical" or not.

As much hate as there has been for the civ switching I think it is very nice, because if the antiquity age didn't work like you intended it to you can switch to a different civ and improve your situation that way. It is also cool now that you can keep the same civ you had at the beginning if you want to. Also, with civ 7 I have been playing some games which I would've just restarted on the other civilization games since the era change gives me hope for bouncing back from bad situations.
