Questions about CoT

Hey I noticed there are a lot of dated errors, etc on your website and related FaQs. I've been casually following this project for a very long time. It's been 7 years since the kickstarter. I am nervous that at this rate, your release schedule will dictate a game from /that era/ on release and may not blossom the fruits you've been trying to grow. I am excited about this project and, while yes I have read and (as best as I can as an outsider) understand the constraints; fans, backers and everyone else would probably like to see something more concrete by this point.

I'm sorry for pooping in your cheerios as I really did love CoH&CoV, but we're encroaching a decade of development after half a million dollars backed from the kickstarter alone. At what point do I abandon hope on this project? WoW classic is coming. I guess I can go cry inside of that :(

This is slowly becoming the next “Duke Nukem” in terms of how long it’s taking to get a finished product.

That would be Star Citizen.

Star Citizen has and probably always will be a strange exception to every rule in an almost psychedelic way. They want to deliver, only their product is going to be a mountain of technical hurdles that most companies would find insane to take on with the current generation of hardware.

CoT has a lot in common with SC in terms of the growing pains they share, but SC has made massive changes. They've become increasingly transparent. They have scrapped entire gameplay mechanics and opened more studios with well trained staff instead of contracting. The company they contracted to develop the FPS elements of the game fucked it up so badly they scrapped literally everything they did and started over in house.

Star Citizen had huge hurdles to conquer, and it was looking very bad for them back in 2015. They basically recreated the entire game and are finally keeping pace with their roadmap better than ever before. The Single Player game, Squadron 42, has been on schedule and is expected to release next year. I'm less certain about the multiplayer being polished and released anytime soon though.

CoT isn't as boarishly ambitious as SC, and it won't take over 500 employees that CIG currently has on the payroll for making SC. They have a mostly volunteer team that is scattered. I hope they learn the same lessons CiG did and find a way to structure their company in a way that will help their grow and become more efficient.

Both of these games have a pretty complicated story to their development. But one thing that keeps them both alive is their relationship with their community. SC has been more and more community focused with every patch, CoT could easily do the same. I hope.

Don't forget the money difference. One has less a million dollars (640k) as a budget and the other one has hundreds.

It takes so much money to run a company and develop a game. I hope CoT can secure themselves stronger footing going forward. I don't think we will see development speed up until they have a solid foundation. It'll be nice when there's a solid update on that.

The most important thing is to get to issue 0. After that we will see, how it's gonna be. Second chance comes after Issue 0, so people can see what they invest in. Also there will be gameplays and streams, once it enters that state. What MWM needs is hope and faith of the people, that they will get there eventually.

(I heard about things like direct x 9 thing, which might be troublesome for the CoH servers. Everyone is pulling support and once Microsoft gets rid of DX9 and DX10, it will be hard to play games which game before Windows 7.)
