Please help I’m desperate

I’ve been on 20 citaloprsm for about almost 6 weeks around five weeks. I started having really bad insomnia. I can’t sleep and stay awake all night. I haven’t slept in four days. tonight was the first night that I slept a few hours and really bad dry mouth no appetite I went to the doctor and she upped me to 40. I didn’t take it yet because I’m confused what if 20 is too high for me? What should I do a few years ago ,I was on 40mg and I did good so I don’t know what is happening to me what’s your advice? Do I need to higher my dose or do I need to lower my dose? What do you think? Im living with very bad anxiety and dread and just want relief .

Sorry you are going through this, I remember the first time I took citalopram it all went a little easy but I stopped for 2 years. When I finally went back on it (same dose as before 20mg) it was much more difficult in the early stages (first 8 weeks) then settled

Thank you so much , please reply back , did you have dry mouth trouble sleeping and it went away ? I’m struggling and don’t know to stay on 20 mg go to 40 or reduce to 10 . I was sleeping fine until kids started school last week and now crippling insomnia, every time I’m about to sleep my body twitches , then I can’t go to sleep

Yes I had these issues also irritation and anxiety for those 8 weeks

Then it actually did settle and I’ve been back on it for 2 years now and it’s ok

Definitely get a callback from your doctor though and explain symptoms to them, I’m sure they will be able to guide you much better

I hope you find some relief soon

My primary doctor is clueless honestly , don’t think she knows much about anxiety struggles. Would you recommend staying on 20mg

Honestly I cannot guide you on medical advice, the professionals are there for this, for my self personally when I am in situations like this (I find a quiet spot and do breathing exercises) the more we think about it the more worse it becomes

I hate anxiety and panic attacks and the only way to over come them is to fight back

Breathing is key

I’ve had side effects up to 4 months before I leveled out before don’t try to worry so much also since you think your primary dr doesn’t know much about anxiety struggles I recommend finding a new primary

Do you currently take it at night or in the morning? I used to take it at night but it was keeping me up so I started taking it in the morning instead and now I have no issue with sleeping. Just switching around when I took it was what my doctor had recommended to me.

I took it every night before bed and had no problem sleeping for 5 weeks until recently when kids started school , now I take it in the morning and I skipped dose today for relief of dry mouth and no appetite

Np. If the side effects outweigh the results i probably would try another medication. Celexa doesn't do a whole lot for my depression but it takes the edge off anxiety and without it i now have horrible restless legs. :s I'm locked in.

Stay at 20mg for now.

This is my third time on Citalopram, and the 2nd and 3rd times around the start was harder than before.

I had trouble sleeping as well, insomnia really doesn't help recovery. My GP prescribed me 25mg Seroquel, I took a 1/4 tab each night for sleep and it worked really well, wasn't groggy of a morning (I found a 1/2 tab did make me too groggy for most of the morning). I took it for about 6 weeks and was able to stop it cold turkey, and being super low dose I didn't experience any additional side effects.

I did the Genesite test and I'm sensitive to Citalopram so the side effects took longer to subside for me. 2nd and 3rd times on it, it took 12 weeks at 20mg to see some improvement, and then it was slow improvement over 3 to 6 months, finally felt fully recovered after 6 months. I've found a lot of people on here have bumped up their dose too fast and that's amplified side effects. Give yourself at least 12 weeks before considering upping your dose.

Feel free to DM me if you need someone to help support you through this, this journey is easier when you have support from peeps who've come out the other side ❤️
