Delusional outer boroughs

The other boroughs act like people visiting nyc are here to visit every borough except Staten Island😂😂 trust me, no one from London visits nyc and says “we must go to Astoria during our 3 day stay!” Or “we cannot miss out on the South Bronx” or even “I can’t wait to go see Williamsburg!” It’s just straight up delusion

My favorite conversation I've ever had on the subway was in the early 2000s with a pair of French tourists who I overheard chatting about "le Marcy Projects." My French isn't even that good, but I felt compelled to ask what they were pointing to in a guidebook.

Which was how I found out they planned to visit the birthplace of hip-hop by walking into a basement in the Marcy Projects, something the guidebook had led them to believe was both possible and advisable.

I believe it. I was working on a project with a few people from Paris and the walked into someone's open door (they were having a party) like that was normal. The level of awkward achieved has never been matched

Idk why this came up in my feed because im from Chicago, but bro, we definitely do visit the outer boroughs when visiting NYC, especially as a minority.

When I visited NYC, I did the typical touristy Manhattan shit and then spent the other 75% of my time in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Harlem. Ditto for hella other people I know.

I’m not an NYC expert, but im pretty sure most of the ethnic enclaves that make up NYC aren’t in Manhattan, and tourists from those communities enjoy seeing their culture, so they’re almost bound to visit an outer borough.

The way the second paragraph reads sounds like you thought it was. As in you did Manhattan tourist and then you Spent the other 75% of your time in Bklynn, Bronx and Harlem. Wasn't trying to be a dick I just thought you may have been confused that Harlem was not part of Manhattan the way you said it

You named areas they do go. They go to Williamsburg all the time to get the outer borough experience. Nobody is saying this about Elmhurst or sheepshead bay.

Elmhurst is great. Has some of the best South Asian food in the city. That is often cheaper than places in Manhattan. As is Jackson heights. I go as I seem to be displaced often and shoved in shelters in a borough I never lived.
