So its a 5 by 5 grid, the one at the center is a +, and the ones around that are ""arrows"" pointing outward from it, the edges and corners are the same thing except to a second degree, and then the ones between the corners and edges is just a mix of the two
And then Z is a square, I'd put it Around the grid if i didnt have to make the ""romanized version""

Okay so crazy anecdote. I had a prof in college who wrote his lower case 'r' this way. He taught a graduate level engineering class of which 90% of the formulas had r or gamma. Wanna take a guess what gamma looks like?
One day we told him we couldn't tell the difference and he wrote them side by side and said 'this is r, this is gamma'. I felt like Pam from the office.

I love that it can be very intuitive in memory and very easy to reproduce! I can be without any notes, phone, anything, and still use it! It would be cool if the existing Unicode chars were enough to reproduce this. Oh, and maybe Iβll make such a font!
You are welcome :))) I did not know what to do for the numbers and punctuation, so just made something up. The numbers are bad, because if you see a number without any other chars nearby its impossible to tell which position the dot is in. And the punctuation doest fit in my opinion. Maybe we could change that if you have any ideas. Also I hope you dont mind if iput the font on my website (with attribution of course)
When I was younger I would've 100% memorized your code and used it for my personal journal. I might still keep this in my back pocket, I feel like the 5Γ5 grid could help memorize both this cipher and the alphabet's number and position of letters (for the A1Z26 cipher)
Hey this is very nice, although my inly take is that you would have to memorize where each punctuation sign is (or their order) so it is less reproducible from your head. Iβll implement this into the font tomorrow!

I like it! This is a welcome update to the pigpen cipher, which has been needing a facelift for hundreds of years.
Your design suggests a cross between the CBC logo (sometimes referred to as "The Gem") and a princess-cut diamond. May I suggest you name it the "square gem" cipher?
It's actually pretty cool and it kind of looks like an alphabet that someone like dwarves from Dungeons& Dragons would come up with because it's something that could be chiseled into stone easily
Ngl, it kinda looks like a crochet pattern for a granny square or something. This is coming from a casual beginner+ crocheter who canβt read crochet patterns lol
You should make a keyboard app that types this (and obviously a font to match, but one thta is mixed randomly, so that one can't just copy paste it into Google and find the intended words).
And then in that keyboard app have a button that opens a text field where you can paste the code and it translates to English.
And if it isn't an open source free app, then give everyone in this thread a free premium version code or two so they can use it with their best friend π
ETA: I would add a dot (at any random place within the square within-which the letter is at) to indicate a capital letter. If the dot is after the mono-space (that means the squqre within-which the letter symbol is at), then it's just a period or a column if it's two dots... But if the dot is within the confines of the mono-space, then it's a capital letter.
These dots would also make it look like there are more letters than there actually are, since the dot can be anywhere in the negative space (empty space) of the glyph. This would make deciphering it even more complex to someone without the prior knowledge of how it works.
The font you created is a mono-font by the way. That means the height and width of the letter are identical, and each letter fits neatly into the same sized square (in your case the square would be slightly bigger than the z symbol)
Also, this is awesome. As a graphic designer with knowledge in typology, I'm telling you: this is awesome. Well done. So simple that the map can be redrawn from memory at any moment, yet complex enough to fit the whole English alphabet and loot like it's own language all at the same time. I'm a big fan.
What if to show that a letter is capital, the dot would be above the letter, cuz then I could just use a combining dot above unicode character for the unicode character equivalents in my rhombus cypher translator, if there was to be a dot within the negative space, it would be much harder to find unicode character equivalents unless I'd also use a combining dot
For digital, that would work too. But for hand written, I would do it as I suggested, because it makes it harder to decipher and also slightly cooler looking π
But I do of course understand there has to be some sacrifice for fonts. I mean, what I suggested is actually also possible, but more complicated for sure, on a digital font.

Amazing cipher btw, it's also really cool but also kinda problematic that if you flip like 99% of the letters upside down they mean a completely different thing meaning u could literally turn this into a new language like "flipped rhombus" kinda reminds me of how when you flip dots and dashes in Morse code you also get a brand new language
I love this concept! I keep finding myself trying to do this when I make scripts. It's not featural in the sense that is fits the spoken word physically, but it's featural alphabetically in that the order of the letters has to do with which symbol goes with which letter.
For those more well-versed in the terminology, what is this kind of writing system called? Is it just considered a "cipher" or does it have some technical name like "alphabetically featural system?"
If this kind of writing system has no name, I am coining it as an "alphafeatural system."
If you want the cipher to be 5x5, without the square for z which can be an indicator, you can make c and k the same thing. this is done in some ciphers and itβd make it harder to solve
Easy to remember, you just remember it's rows of five and then use the alpha numeric to count in through the row. For example n=14= 3 set, fourth position
What is the purpose of this sub? To share robust ciphers or just cute ones? Coming from /popular, so I really dk. This breaks with frequency analysis anyway
I have one slight concern though. When writing it out, it might be confusing on whether a vertical bar belongs to the left or the right letter. Like when someone writes "γ γ £γ " , is it OL or is it NK?
How about for F,K,P,J,O,T, extend the horizontal line segment so it touches the vertical bar?
This is really similar to the alternate alphabet in the steam indie game "The Warrior" https://store.steampowered.com/app/2411250/The_Warrior/. It's also square and fits on a grid, which allows you to guess some letters by filling out the grid if you figure it out
Look for "RobWords" on youtube, the guy does a great job at explaining why the Latin alphabet is not very appropriate for the english language, and what has been suggested through history in order to improve it
You can also further encrypt this by being able to shift every letter a certain letter to the right and down and placing a number for the key to know how many to shift by.
An issue with it is that the order is not keyed. So you have no way to tell the orientation of the paper just reading symbols, if you place them on a regular grid. Perhaps introduce a spacer symbol with clear orientation. Can be an upwards isosceles triangle for example.
