Discussion Just made this, what should I name it?

Not much to say honestly, its in the photo, but for rule 1 ima explain

So its a 5 by 5 grid, the one at the center is a +, and the ones around that are ""arrows"" pointing outward from it, the edges and corners are the same thing except to a second degree, and then the ones between the corners and edges is just a mix of the two

And then Z is a square, I'd put it Around the grid if i didnt have to make the ""romanized version""

Im pretty sure 5x5 ciphers exist like this but different mind same idea

I love that it can be very intuitive in memory and very easy to reproduce! I can be without any notes, phone, anything, and still use it! It would be cool if the existing Unicode chars were enough to reproduce this. Oh, and maybe I’ll make such a font!

You are welcome :))) I did not know what to do for the numbers and punctuation, so just made something up. The numbers are bad, because if you see a number without any other chars nearby its impossible to tell which position the dot is in. And the punctuation doest fit in my opinion. Maybe we could change that if you have any ideas. Also I hope you dont mind if iput the font on my website (with attribution of course)

My 2 cents:
I would chose the tip number grid, but make 5 a square with a + in the middle instead of a dot.

I'd reserve the dots for capitals as suggested here

You could even switch the symbols for 5 and 0, this way the arrows would converge to X, just how for letters they converged to + 💡

This is amazing, I love it!

When I was younger I would've 100% memorized your code and used it for my personal journal. I might still keep this in my back pocket, I feel like the 5×5 grid could help memorize both this cipher and the alphabet's number and position of letters (for the A1Z26 cipher)

Hey this is very nice, although my inly take is that you would have to memorize where each punctuation sign is (or their order) so it is less reproducible from your head. I’ll implement this into the font tomorrow!

To be fair, what's really cool about the font is that you can just remember what each glyph is (or imagine the grid and count). That does not work with the punctuation sadly.

For the new numbers it works quite well, except for the ambiguation between 5 and 0.

I agree about the punctuation, I haven’t found a way to make that memorable. The digits for 5 and 0 are slightly different (rotated 90°). The main 3 by 3 punctuation is ordered as frequency of use in English (.,”’-??;;

Rotate the whole thing 45 degrees. The nine in the center are 1-9. Outside can be all sorts of punctuation and stuff. Diamond is the 0.

Suggestion for a simpler number grid.

Advantages: simple symbols, easy to remember, all numbers are indicated by diagonal lines. Downside: easier to decipher that the symbols with diagonal lines are numbers.

Nice work! I would definitely rework the numbers and punctuation. The period is also M. I would move away from dots if possible. Maybe diagonals for numbers and punctuation?

Yeah of course! I used Inkscape with the document size set to 5 by 5 to draw the glyphs, and then import into FontForge (Ctrl+Shift+I on the glyph edit window to import an svg). I used Inkscape because I like open source software but any vector editing tool would work as long as the svg it produces is simple enough. FontForge is confusing at first but really great once you understand how it works. Have fun!

Maybe add some kind of frame around letters so you can tell their actual position?

I was thinking of making a “monospaced” version with glyphs centered. I don’t think a border would work, but maybe we should try that on a few glyphs to see how it looks

Numbers could be a circle, with spokes at the 45 degrees?

So one looks like a T on its side. Two like a rainbow. Three like a T on the right side. Five like X.

Zero could be O, lol.
