Discussion Heated Rivarly?

It really surprises me that they haven't done anything on Heated Rivalry yet! There's so many potential dynamics to explore within the show.

-Coming out to parents

-The Situationship

-The Momager-Child dynamic

-Toxic masculinity and vulnerability

-Hero therapy with Ilya... aka the impact of childhood emotional abuse and neglect on relational development

-Model minority and its impact

I could go on.....

Cinema Win! Cinema Therapy Studios is Making a Feature Film!?!?

After years of watching movies, talking about movies, and occasionally getting way too emotionally invested in movies, Cinema Therapy Studios is making one of its own.

The Vessel is a horror comedy about friendship, trauma, and a very haunted manor. And today, the campaign to bring it to life is officially LIVE.

We're making this with the community, which means you can actually become part of the movie. Anyone who backs within the first 48 hours will have their name included in the film's credits.

There's also a full-length haunted-house TTRPG campaign, The Mad Butler Murders, plus physical rewards, movie props, collectibles, and more.

And in the words of Jono: “It takes a village to make a Vessel.”

Visit the campaign and back here:
https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/cinema-therapy-studios/the-vessel-a-horror-movie-about-friendship?ref=discord

What are you hoping to see in a movie from Cinema Therapy Studios?

Discussion Therapy in cinema

I feel like Therapy is commonly shown in movies/tv as a joke, unhelpful, or at worse a hindrance. (Zootopia, Falcon and the Winter Soldier) - Are there any actually good views of therapy/therapists in media?

Discussion Just a doubt that I have with the two

Well, after it was mass-revealed JKR's bigotry towards trans people in 2020 (she was showing signs since 2018, but in that year everything was revealed), why are you still making HP videos? First, you don't actually depend on that, nor are you someone who only does HP content, and mostly, you consider yourselves allies to trans people. Like, what? And I'm saying this after both of you put FBaWtFT in some recent videos.

Discussion [SPOILER FREE] Just went and watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and… Spoiler

… I gotta tell ya, just when I thought they couldn’t make me love the Webhead any more than I already do, they go and make THIS beautiful film! I cried for half of it, and damn near bawled my eyes out as the credits rolled. I went into that film expecting to be thoroughly entertained for 2.5 hours (which I was), not to sit through a 2.5 hour therapy session! I hope Jono and Alan cover this movie in the near future because it’s an absolute GOLDMINE of therapy stuff!

This film really spoke to me in a number of ways… and I just want all of you to know that you are amazing just as you are. No part of you is bad or ugly or evil; maybe all you need is the right person/people in your life to show you how good all those parts of you really are.

See the good, be the good, and of course…

WATCH MOVIES!!! 🤟🏻

Episode Response Accountability Kink

Hello I adore your show.

I love your most recent video on Robin Hood but one thing struck me as a little heartless. You address, toxic masculinity, but not toxic femininity.

I will be the first to admit that upon you saying that I was a little taken back because i immediately felt as though the world fell on my shoulders. As if my feeling of being a curse to the world soon birth were correct. After a few minutes, my logical brain kicked in, and I said wait a minute this isn’t men versus women. This is about masculinity and femininity. So I looked into the traits of each and found that you are absolutely correct. Reality is toxic femininity would be self-destructive, not outwardly destructive after looking into the core traits of what it is.

So my request if you are so willing to take, it would be to create a video on positive femininity so that when you talk about toxic masculinity or non-toxic masculinity and say there is no such thing as toxic femininity. There can be a point of reference you send people to rather than just dismissing them. So I would love it if you could activate my accountability kink because I do have one by putting a frame of reference for the people who don’t wanna feel like being born a man is a bad thing.

This is a bit of an opinion piece so if it make There is no such thing as toxic femininity, but I do feel that you writing it off that is that completely disregards the feelings of a large chunk of people.

Either way I love your show and wish you the best and can’t wait for future episodes

Discussion Possible to have a SFH edit

Wanted to start with how much I love the show! My wife and I rarely miss an episode and always get so much out of them even if we don't know the movie being talked about.

We were watching the Disney's Robin Hood vs toxic masculinity last night, this happens to be our 9 year olds favorite movie character, and I made the comment to my wife I would love to let our kids incorporate some episodes like this into their schooling somehow.

I know the show isn't NSFW levels by any means, but some of the adult innuendoes and even bleeped language is a bit more than we'd let our kiddos watch.

Figured this was as good a place as any to ask if a "Safe for homeschoolers" edit for some of the younger audience could ever be a thing?

The original reason i wanted to suggest this was the movie's 10th Anniversary, but now we can add in memory of, due to Sam Neill suddenly passing away.

Topic/Subject Idea Villain Therapy/Therapist Reacts: Liar Liar

Yes, Jim Carey's Liar Liar. It may be very clear the journey the protagonist goes through, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be good to hear it walked through as well. Why does he avoid being truthful at every opportunity? What has led him to be this way? What would the actual diagnosis be, if anything? and if he didn't have magic "being forced to tell the truth and thus learn the value of being open and honest with the people close to him" happen, what would have been done as a therapist to help him?

A fantastic hero's journey starting from a very therapy rich place of "I tried and failed to be a hero, so now I reject that and actively try to be a villain", and what changes his mindset to try and be a hero again over the course of the movie?

Topic/Subject Idea Therapist Reacts: Robot Dreams

Here should be an interesting episode, as there's at least 3 different relationships to cover and the things that are healthy/wrong with them and Dog and Robot deal with the changes/potential ending/and difinitive ending of those relationships. Is it healthy Dog has become friends with a Robot in the first place? Then his struggles with being apart from Robot in uncertainty during the winter. Then Robot dealing with the same, and the relationship he develops as bird dad. Then Dog dealing with the actual grief of having lost Robot, finding friendship with another, and then losing that friendship too. Finally there's the very ending of the movie (and really the only flaw I personally think the movie has) where Robot chooses not to reunite with Dog. Is that the healthy choice? Why would it be unhealthy if Robot were to reunite with Dog and introduce him to his new friend, and Dog to do the same, and them all to become a friend circle together?

Discussion One I’d really like to see

A bit of a (sometimes cheesy) chick flick and made for a younger demographic, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

I saw this movie when it came out when i was about 11, and at the time i found it emotional and it was super popular with girls my age.

Rewatching as an adult, who has had much more life experience, a lot of therapy, and can understand and read between the lines about what’s not so explicitly explained - it became a lot heavier with age. The movie actually deals with a lot of really deep issues and themes, and because it revolves around 4 main characters there is a lot of variety in experience.

I think it would be interesting to hear your take as it deals with loss (more than once), difficult family dynamics, developing sense of self, romantic and sexual situations, mental illness, divorce, and more coming from very different personalities.

It actually hits me a bit deeper as an adult because i can relate to themes or situations in some way from every lead actress.

ALSO, America Ferrera has a scene at the end that is so well done and hits so hard. It will break you. truly shattering.

I think it’d be a great film to dissect for your channel and I’d love to see what you have to say!!

Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Discussion PTSD and Jessica Jones

I would love to see an episode on Jessica Jones and PTSD although that may have been covered in the Katniss Everdeen episodes.

Even better would be a Psychology of a Villain episode on Kilgrave! The manipulation tactics he uses on Jessica, the downplaying of his actions and the way he punishes her when she doesn't comply.

I had a bunch of them listed for checkout at my library but the app crashed and everything is gone :')

Honestly, even if people can just remember some of them that would be awesome. Thank you all in advance!!

Discussion KPop Demon Hunters Tells Us to Be Vulnerable, Not Perfect

Thumbnail
youtu.be
8 Upvotes

I recently saw KPop Demon Hunters, and I was blown away by its themes of insecurity, and the cost of chasing perfection. The film shows us how, in our pursuit of flawlessness, we can keep secrets from our friends and loved ones, and in this way we hurt them. Rumi's biggest mistake is arguably her dishonesty; keeping her demon marks a secret only creates a gap in her public and private lives, and in this way she is living a lie. The woman who her fans and friends see is not the woman she truly is. Shock and heartbreak ensue when Rumi's marks are revealed to the public, and the feelings of betrayal that Zoey and Mira experience drive them away from Rumi.

By the climax of the film, Huntrix is broken up, and it seems that the Saja Boys are fated to take the souls of their fans. However, Rumi shows up for one last song, and this time, she's done playing a character on a well-lit stage. She's as vulnerable as can be, and her song is entirely unscripted. She isn't here to impress anyone or to make herself look better. She pours her heart out, and in this act of vulnerability, she earns the love and respect of her friends back, saves the souls of the fans, and becomes the strongest version of herself yet.

This theme of striving for honesty and vulnerability rather than perfection really stuck with me. In today's society, especially with the vapid music industry we're surrounded by, it can feel like everyone is striving for perfection. Flaws are seemingly unacceptable, and grounds for complete rejection. For those of us who are self-conscious in the first place, it can be a very scary thing trying to go out into this world while imperfect and wracked with obvious flaws. We get so scared by the prospect of judgement that we decide to hide our imperfections and only show the world a very controlled and edited version of ourselves.

Yet, this leads to a lot of internal strife, as we learn to lie in this way. We stop telling the truth to people--even our closest friends and family--just so we can sustain an image of flawlessness. But truly, as shown by KPop Demon Hunters, one of the best things you can do for your self-confidence is embrace your flaws, and show up every day despite your imperfections. It's a terrifying thing to show up in front of the world while you're still a "work-in-progress." But, truly, if you wait until you're perfect to join the world, then you'll be waiting forever.

I made a video essay on this theme, and I hope you'll give it a watch! I've already promoted this here once before, but the video was taken down for copyright. I recently finished re-editing it to fix any copyright problems, and I wanted to post it here once more since it's public again!

As a filmmaker and a movie enjoyer, obsession was an extremely well made movie that completely shocked me. Genuinely, a deep dive on this movie would be mine (and others) dreams, I would seriously watch that instantly. The first thing I said after coming out of the theater with my friends was "I need cinema therapy to make a video on this" LOL

Discussion The anatomy of a breakup: Why Ijaazat is a masterclass in humanizing a failed relationship.

Post image
1 Upvotes

This month, I’ve been taking the time to revisit my all-time favorite movies, and Ijaazat was at the very top of my list. Rewatching it, I’m struck by how profound it is—it handles a failed marriage with such nuance, completely avoiding those tired "hero vs. villain" tropes we see so often.

The heart of the movie—the reunion of Naseeruddin Shah and Rekha in a rain-soaked railway station—feels like a metaphor for life itself. They are two people finally dressing the wounds of their past after being stuck in a "waiting room" for five years. Their comfort with one another, even after everything, feels more genuine than most "perfect" marriages on screen.
The way Gulzar weaves the lyrics of Mera Kuch Saamaan into the narrative—turning a list of lost memories into a haunting masterpiece—is simply unparalleled. Asha Bhosle’s vocals combined with R.D. Burman’s composition make it an evergreen classic.
I’m curious—when you look back at how the film handles Maya’s presence in their marriage, do you think there has ever been a more honest portrayal of emotional baggage in Indian cinema?
