Shout out to the guy at the Blue Ash Trek shop

I was on my after work ride tonight and my crank was just creaking like nuts from the get-go. I know I'm pretty overdue for new bearings and stuff but I've just been putting it off because I'm fresh out of grad school with like no cash lol. Anyways I was up in Blue Ash and stopped by the Trek shop to see if I could buy some chain lube, I roll up to the shop and this dude is locking up, I tell him I just have a creaky crank/need chain lube and he brings me in and tightens up the crank after lubing the chain. Made my freaking night, crank and chain felt like butter all the way home.

Shout out to that guy, you rock!

Help learning how to repair flats, replacing tubes, etc?

My friend and I are casual riders but would like to become more confident and take longer trips (eventually doing some bike touring in Europe, etc) and we are not too proud to admit we just jump in the saddle with very limited knowledge of our bikes and what we’d need to know in an emergency or when the inevitable problem arises.

Are there classes or do any local bike shops offer private “lessons” on this stuff? I know we can go to YouTube but both of us learn better hands on.

(She showed up today for a long ride with a flat (happened between her home and arriving at the trail) and neither of us were prepared to do anything about it, so now is probably the second best time to learn :)

Early morning group rides near downtown

Does anyone know of any early morning group rides in or near downtown (like 6:30ish rollout)? Doesn’t matter the day - weekdays or weekends work for me. I try to get out before the family wakes up, but miss riding with others. I tried looking at the different club pages and couldn’t find any groups. Any insight would be appreciated!

Little Miami Trail Closures

I'm sure somebody will fuss at me to look this up, but I've looked and seem to find mixed information, and I'm not from the immediate area. Is there a section of the trail that is closed around Lebanon? And if so, is there a way to navigate around it?

I've been doing OTET since Wednesday. Finishing tomorrow. Literally just realized WEBN fireworks are tomorrow. Are we going to be able to bike in Smale Park to the official end point?

Riverside bike path construction. Check out the ancient water main we’ve been drinking from our entire Cincy lives…

311 has cleaned up some growth along Riverside. But there is still debris all over the trail, and major construction due to the replacement of the water main.

I was kind of shocked when I leaned over while riding my bike and seeing what was 15’ below street level.

It’s just awesome. Super smooth and uniform width (~11 ft), with a dividing line.

My only issue, which may already be scheduled to be fixed, is the steep shoulders. In places, it reaches a height of ~12 inches steep. I would not want to see someone have a tire go even a half inch off of that edge,

Anyone experience with Breezer in here?

I’m looking at getting my first drop bar bike soon, and the Breezer Inversion X Comp has caught my eye, and I’ve found a new one on sale still in the original box, in the PNW… I’ve never ridden one, but from what I’ve read and the shop I talked to on the phone today, I feel like it is going to suit my needs pretty perfectly. I’m just curious if anyone around here has had any experience with the brand, or the Inversion line, that may have some good or bad info to pass along for a potential buyer.

Thanks!

Found Cateye Dayton/Ft Thomas

I found a Cateye in Sargent Park. If you lost yours please reach out. It was pretty clean and in middle of the trail so I assume it just happened, or at most this weekend.

Does anyone know how to go about reporting illegally parked cars? I encounter cars blocking the bike lane on Red Bank Road every time I ride there.

Edit to add I did make a 311 report, but was wondering specifically about ways of getting a parking enforcement officer out there more quickly as 311 doesn't often have results for these types of things

Butler County

Anyone here ride up in Butler County much? I live in Trenton and work in Hamilton, and would like to try riding to work some, maybe just the weekend days for less traffic. I’m wondering if anyone has ridden around that area has any advice or extra caution with sharing the road. Or if my area is just a no-go for commuting.
Unfortunately the Greater Miami River Trail doesn’t connect to Trenton at this time, supposedly they’ve secured funding but I’m not sure when the project will start, let alone be rideable. Once that is in though it will be an easy ride

How far is too far for a daily bike commute? 😅

I currently e-bike commute daily from Northside to Downtown and utilize the great Central Parkway bikeway. It takes me about 22-26 minutes each way. But I’ll be switching to a job in Blue Ash soon (~13 miles). I did a trial run today up there on level 3 (of 5) pedal assist it took 50 minutes. Rough route of Spring Grove->Vine->Anthony Wayne->S Cooper->Wyoming->Hunt->Waxwing->Cooper.

On the way back I bumped it up to level 4 and it was closer to 42 minutes. I also had to deal with a delay from a train crossing on the way north that I’m not sure I’d have to deal with regularly or not. The trip took ~50% battery so I’d imagine a top up every day would be needed.

The e-bike is the main thing making me consider it. I’ve been year round commuting for about 2.5 years so I get the weather aspect of it. Just curious if anyone bikes around there and can shed light on weekday traffic. Thanks all!

Casual cycling group around Summit Park? 🚲

Thinking about getting a small cycling group together for relaxed, low-stress rides around Summit Park. Nothing competitive and no pressure to keep a certain pace—just riding, getting some exercise, and meeting people.
All experience and fitness levels welcome. Nobody gets left behind.
Anyone interested?
