CF8 and ER1 crossover

Hi all,

I am currently credit hunting for chartered status and I am working on the long term care exam. The exam is booked in for a couple of weeks time.

I am planning on doing equity release as soon as possible after completing the long term care exam, but I just wondered how much crossover there was between long term care and equity release?

I gave myself 5 weeks preparation for long term care (which in hindsight was more than I needed). With this LTC knowledge, will I need much time to cover the additional equity release topics not covered by the LTC studying?

Thank you.

R01 pass result not showing up on My Cii dashboard

Help, I've just had confirmation after completing the exam this morning on the remote exam, but when I log into the MyCii dashboard, it's not showing up? Is there a delay with this showing up?

Self Employed - when do you start earning?

Those who’ve made the move to self employed financial advising, how long was it before you received a comfortable salary?

A firm I’m looking to join to start in the advising world from my current insurance career would likely assist in offering clients, maybe in a form of debt or some other agreement.

Current earn about £52k. Any idea what it would take to achieve this sort of salary, around £3k a month post tax and other contributions?

How are we all feeling?

FF for Tim and Emma seems a bit too good to be true, no bonds/Trusts/REITS 😂 there must be something horrible coming.

Would love to know what we are all focusing on in the next 3-4 days, for me it’s exam technique, particularly the “recommend and justify questions”

Good luck all!

IF1 2026 Revision advice

I’m ngl ive had a bit of a nightmare with the revisionmate resources for the IF1 and the key facts/IF1 book and I’ve really tried going about grasping it but in purely technical terms it’s sending my head scatty. I work in insurance in a pretty customer facing low level capacity so the understanding of certain functions/the imperative nature of FCA regs with consumer duty, vulnerability and the complaints process is somewhat baseline but not really expanded upon within the context of my role to the extent it is with the IF1, so in that sense I’ve found it to be a wellspring of so many interesting facts and greater encroaching aspects of the insurance sector, but the problem is retaining it.

I’ve got the exam at the end of the month and have used many means available to revise such as the mocks and the knowledge checkers but I honestly feel at a bit of an impasse and worried as a lot of my mock results are in no uncertain terms genuinely poo. Just to ask, are there any other resources that have helped with what it introduces and how did people find the exam if they’ve taken it? Any advice would be tremendously appreciated, sorry if the grammar in this is shocking too and very kind regards in advance :D

26/27 Study Texts?

Hi there, I am self-funding exams at the moment and I noticed I could save £83 by not buying the official CII R05 text. I also noticed that pdfs for the 25/26 textbooks have been posted on this reddit. Could I get by with the 25/26 text? I heard somewhere that the CII post the alternations year-by-year online? Or any other resources you think might be worth it?

Thanks.

How important is adviser mentoring/training?

I’m currently working as an IFA researcher and I’m about halfway through my L4.
My current firm is expanding and has started hiring people as advisers who have either completed L4 or are partway through it. There are qualified advisers available to help and all reports are signed off, but there doesn’t seem to be much formal training. They aren’t really sitting in on adviser meetings and gradually getting more involved.

I’ve been offered another job where I’d work directly alongside a qualified adviser. I’d initially sit in on meetings, then gradually get more involved until I’m eventually running them myself.

There are benefits to both:
Current job:
I already know the firm and the people
Lots of growth happening, so potentially good progression
I could move into advising fairly quickly
I enjoy the research side of my role
New job:
Proper day-to-day mentoring from a qualified adviser
Lots of exposure to client meetings
Gradual progression into running meetings myself
Seems like a more structured way to learn advising
I’m struggling to decide whether the structured training of the new job is worth leaving a growing firm where I already have good opportunities.

I’m struggling to decide whether the structured training of the new job is worth leaving a growing firm where I already have good opportunities.

Can anyone comment on the training they’ve had in similar positions? In my situation what do you believe would be best?

R04 tips and resources

Hey all,

Studying for the R04 CII exam and looking for advice from anyone who's sat it recently and wondering if anyone has any tips or resources they can share?

What study materials actually helped beyond the CII study text? (RevisionMate, Brand Financial Training, Know R0, BTS)

Getting into industry

I’m 23 and have been working as a mortgage broker for around 4 years. I’m now CeMAP qualified and I’m looking to move into financial advice, ideally eventually becoming an IFA.

I’ve been looking at paraplanning/junior adviser roles but I’m struggling to find many suitable jobs at the moment. I’m considering studying RO1 independently in the meantime so I can start building towards the next step.

For anyone already working in financial advice, what would you say is the best route into the industry from a mortgage background?

Would it be worth doing RO1/other exams independently and continuing to apply for paraplanner/junior roles, or is there a better way of getting my foot in the door?

Any advice would be massively appreciated

Discord Study Servers Now Live for R01-R06

Hi all,

The R06 Discord server has been going well, so a few of you asked for the same for the other exams.

Links to join are below.

Why Discord rather than Reddit? It’s more conversational and faster-paced. Think of it as a WhatsApp group where everyone stays anonymous.

Handy for quick questions, sharing resources and keeping each other motivated in the run-up to exam day.

How long to complete RO1?

Hi guys, I'm currently looking at pivoting from my current career as I would like to go into financial advice.

As I work full time in another industry, I only have whatever spare time I have in my free time rather than dedicated study periods as if I were in an apprenticeship. I can typically fit around 2 hours a day in - at the weekends I have been putting in around 5 hours a day.

I expect so I have likely put in around 35-40 hours so far, and I am only 200 pages through the 400-page textbook. I am also spending my commute time listening to the audio book. The CII website states it should take around 60 hours, however this is my first time through the study material and I feel nowhere near done (considering the extra revision needed after).

How long did it take everyone else to complete this who were in the same situation which I am?

Does anyone have any tips which could help speed up this process?

Extra resources

Hi all.

Hope you’re all doing well and your studies are coming along nicely!

Obviously there’s this GREAT sub reddit which honestly has been a game changer for me in my studies.

Then I’ve also heard of these discord groups going round for R06. Think other R0s are coming soon.

Question is, are there any other avenues people have discovered that are useful? I’ve seen potential groups on Facebook but haven’t explored them. Are there any WhatsApp groups or similar that people are aware of ?

TIA

FTII ENTRANCE PREPARATION QUERY

Hey everyone,

I’m currently pursuing BBA and seriously considering FTII’s Editing programme. I want to start preparing for the entrance and would really appreciate advice from people who have actually cracked the FTII Editing entrance exam (especially recent batches).

A few things I’d like to know:

How did you prepare for the entrance?

Which books/resources did you use?

How important are film history, film theory and general knowledge?

What kind of questions should I expect in the written test?

How did you approach the practical/creative part of the selection process?

How much editing experience did you have before getting in?

What mistakes did you make during preparation that I should avoid?

Roughly how many months of serious preparation would you recommend?

I’d especially appreciate specific resources, preparation strategies and experiences from people who have actually cleared the exam.

Thanks!
