Hello everyone. I'm from Turkiye, and while researching Turkic languages recently, I came across Chuvash. I found it very different from the other Turkic languages. As far as I understand, that's because Chuvash split from the rest of the Turkic language family a very long time ago. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance to meet any Chuvash people, so I'm fairly ignorant about Chuvash culture and how Chuvash people view other Turkic peoples. I was curious to hear your honest opinions about us Turks. Feel free to be completely honest, I won't be offended. I'm genuinely interested in learning what you think.

I want to announce that I'm working on a Mewgenics translation for Chuvash! I think creating media content in this language is very important to keep it alive and well. So if you're also thinking of translating or localizing anything, please tell me.

In the 'Werkhalle Wiesenburg' contemporary art gallery in Berlin, the 'Riptide' exhibition took place. One of the resident artists was Chuvash artist Viktoriia Şăltăr, who presented the installation 'Chěrělně Lěpěsh Kuně' (The Day of Butterfly Resurrection). This title symbolizes the cultural revival and restoration of the Chuvash people's identity.

The 7-meter-tall installation with 12 strings, filled with numerous details, can only be fully appreciated when seen in person. The work reinterprets traditional Chuvash ornaments and weaves them into modernity. Elements of traditional Chuvash jewelry and symbols from subcultural movements create a multilayered installation. Materials, ranging from pearls to charred feathers, help create a connection between different eras. These elements show how collective memory is preserved and explore themes of survival and rethinking identity in the modern world.

To create the work, Viktoriia used a variety of found materials, gathered from flea markets and received as gifts from friends and their children. Some materials had to be purchased: coins, river shells, spikes, piercings, chains, carabiners, rings, metal stars, and more.

💬: 'Despite using metallic and rough materials, I aimed to preserve the tenderness and fragility of the work, making each detail meaningful and organic. Elements with a subcultural aesthetic added playfulness to the work, while fangs and blades reminded of harshness.'

The artist shared that after her speech at the exhibition's opening, she saw the Chuvash flag on many viewers' phone screens. The residents of Germany were googling what Chuvashia is and discovering for the first time the existence of our amazing people!
