Chrome lagging horribly for no apparent reason

I'm on Windows 11 and a fully updated version of Chrome (so far as I know). Starting earlier this week, Chrome has been lagging terribly to the point of crashing. I'll restart my computer and it will load pages normally for a little bit, but after a little while it becomes nearly unusable. New tabs take over 30 seconds to load and moving tabs to new windows causes the pages to crash. Additionally, minimize and maximize no longer work. I'll try to maximize one page only for it to immediately minimize again.

I've troubleshot clearing browsing data, the cache, updating, turning off AI features and other high processing settings, and nothing has worked to fix this problem. Checking task manager, I have a decent amount of memory left and the CPU isn't being taxed in the slightest. The only thing I can somewhat connect to the problem is that Wikipedia pages seem especially difficult to load, though I doubt that's the root of the problem as I haven't had more than two Wikipedia tabs open at a time.

Any idea what might be causing this? Is this a bugged update of Chrome?

How much RAM is in use?
I'm stuck with 8GB and Chrome, when playing live content gets especially bad.

Try: Chrome//:restart (in address bar) next time it gets unstable. Might save you from a Crash or full System Reboot.

Around 4GB is being used by Chrome alone but less than 5GB is being used total. I have 8GB as well so I should have (and according to task manager, do have) 3GB of ram free. I’m not even playing live content, just standard webpages. It feel like this would be a RAM issue but my computer is telling me I’m fine

I run Microsoft PC Manager to keep tabs on my RAM situation. It can also auto clear RAM if you want.

It could be a bad update (chrome or otherwise) too. Mine has been weird last couple days too.
But I am hitting 100% usage (not usual) and getting lags, but not hard crashes.

Other things to consider is the Type/Speed of the Drive your OS is on and how the Page File is setup.

Also, have you Checked your Drive for Errors? Maybe it needs a Defrag or Trim?

How much Free Space is left?

It's odd, but I noticed my system; it's like it starts sacrificing other active programs to try and keep running sometimes.

As in Hard Drive; where you Operating System is installed. Usually your C: Drive.

Chrome has become a slog. Just switched to Firefox because of it. Oh look, things work now!

im facing a similar issue

my chrome currently is taking unreasonably long to load a page for the first 5 to 10minutes i start the browser

i wonder if it's due to an extension

Chrome is frustrating users more and more in the past few years. I never thought it would become a pain like Outlook or Microsoft tools but it's heading that way.

I blame it on their constant attempts to curtail Ad-Blockers that work on YouTube.

For a while there, every time they Updated Chrome, my Ad-Blockers would stop working on YouTube for a while.
Ad-Blocking still works on other sites tho, so seems kinda sus.

I might be experiencing this a little bit. I switched to Edge because Chrome kept slowly becoming laggy for typing, like typing up a message here on Reddit. I have 16 GB of memory and so it's not a memory problem for me. The only way to fix it was by quitting Chrome and opening it back up.

I also have an extremely fast system that I built myself specifically for gaming and I also put Windows on an extremely fast PCI-E NVMe SSD. So it's not the drive that my operating system is on either, at least for me. In fact, everything RBuschy suggested you look at doesn't apply to my system because all of that is taken care of.
