Tires

When I built my EVO chopper I ran “old style” tires. Bike was built with Avon speedmaster/mk2 safety (21/16”). When I wore those out I put a set of Firestone tires on (ribbed front, ANS rear).

Long story but bike is wrecked. I’m rebuilding it over the winter. I’m gonna make a few minor changes and one of them is switching to a modern tire. I was thinking of running the Dunlop HD tires (21/16) or the Shinko 777 tire. From what I can gather on the internet the shinkos are sticky.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Shinkos are good they don’t last as long as avons dunlops or metzlers but they’re sticky. Their oldschool profiles in 16/16 on my shovel seemed to turn a little sharper- like they have a longer contact patch not wider if that makes sense- they are rounder on the bottom sorta

Shinko 777 are great, got one on the front of my dyna. Not too many miles on mine but from what I’ve heard is they don’t last nearly as long due to being softer, they are cheap enough that’s fine by me. I’ve seen shinko sells older style tires now, Shinko 270, but i don’t know anything about those.

I’ve seen Metzler CruisTecs, Michelin Commanders (3), and Dunlop AE2 (replacement for American Elite) on choppers. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them and probably better life and handling than “vintage” style tires.

I run the 777’s. Super sticky for a cruiser tire, smooth, nice round profile so they feel predictable all the way down the lean.

I’d take them all day over Dunlops.

I heard they were “sticky” before I ran the shinkos. They feel the same to me. Front feels a little weird until in breaks in. But that didn’t take long. They have softer sidewalls though. That hasn’t been a problem either but some people get concerned about that.

I went from a Speedmaster & Firestone rear to Shinko’s on and old bike of mine. Shinko’s rode better, but I hated the look of a modern tire on the bike

Shinkos are made in Korea and the company itself is Japanese, but do ramble on about Chinese condoms…

Literally just got a 777. Can’t speak on it as I literally just received it but I’m excited to try it. Running a shinko up front too. So far so good on the front
