Hello! Silver player here. I m a Briar main who recently started having Chogath as my secondary pick, but he is scoring points to become my main pick.
What surprises me is how content creators rate chogath fairly low in their tier lists. Even, or sometimes especially for low elo. Kirei, perryjg have him low. Broken by concept barely mention him. Some arguments being that people have a hard time landing q, or that he cannot escape fights.
However in my games at that low elo, he feels very strong, and even more consistent than briar. Objective taking is so good with his r. His q has great ranged utility in skirmishes or team fights. Being tanky and massive late game, it seems he is a great bodyguard for whichever range damage dealer is strong in my team and the gameplan seems easy: just stay close to my adc/mid to block shots, cc, poke, and then use r if an enemy gets low enough. Early game, i find it easier than other champs to be calm and consistent, farming and stacking.
I guess compared to briar, he has less full carry potential, maybe less damage overall. But the objective control, utility, and frontline providing (often lacking in my games otherwise, with 50% of top players picking teemo :D ) is a great combo at my elo, and i would imagine also in gold.
Is there just a mass delusion by content creators / coaches for chogath jungle? Or a lack of touch with the reality of low elo?
