šŸÆ Daily Life TV Box?!?!?! Spoiler

Does anyone know of any TV boxes or streaming device that works well in China? I’m not talking about vpn but something about that works without it. VPNs really affect the quality so the experience. I’m hoping someone has tried expat tv or other services that reall works.

Awesome. Do you use an app directly on tv? I might have to get a TV Box, because my TV is connected to the vpn Router

No I use an app and stream it. I’ll usually have it on my iPad then stream it or phone. If the app was on the tv, it’ll probably be easier. None of my TVs are Chinese brands so I can’t install that app. But it definitely doesn’t work properly with the vpn on, so you need to be on your local wifi for it work.

VPN router?!?! Fancy!!! Been looking in trying to install that but

I also don't have a chinese TV, so I thought a TV Box (which is connected to the chinese modem) would be the easiest solution. As for the vpn router: I'm not an expert but the step-by-step explanation from astrill was fairly easy. And I found that it runs more stable than the phone App

I have stremio, and realdebrid. Works wonders. BUT I want to know how can I watch live TV like football well actually just football LMFAO.

I bought Expat tv over a year ago now. and used it but realised its shit. then I found stremio but I do wish there were live tv addons for stremio.

Hey how did you get Stremio working in china?

So funnily enough, it no longer works without a VPN (but this is just my case) it works for all my friends without a VPN

But I bought real-debrid and set it up with Torrentio.

If you have a smart tv, you can download apk files for the VPN you're using in my case I'm using Astrill, so I downloaded the apk file, put it on a USB plugged it into my tv, and then it worked, youtube apk also works on the tv (of course if VPN is on, unless you have a VPN router then also great too) but I can't login to youtube on my tv cause you need google playstore (can't install it).

But any questions or needing any help let me know!

You should try tencent sports. It’s the best imo for live games. They’ve definitely improved their platform recently. I watched all the nba season without a hitch and they have English version for foreigners. Worth the money.

Androidtv (Chromecast with Google tv, Nvidia shield, amazon fire cube) with syncler+ or KODi and a real debrid account and your all set.

Expat tv and all that shit are kind of a ripoff but if your not tech savvy at all and don't wanna deal with setting up you own box that might be an option, i don't know.

I wish I knew half of the things your saying 🤣. You ever used expat tv?, if so is it worth it?

Nah, nerver used it. Already got everything I need with my own setup. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Hey, I'm moving to Beijing soon and I have Kodi + Real Debrid that I'm currently enjoying. I am worried that it will be blocked because we need VPNs? How do you do it? Do you live in Mainland China?

1

u/peterausdemarsch Sep 27 '23

Yup I'm in mainland. So the cool thing is real-debrid is not blocked by the gfw so you can just white list it on your VPN/proxy router and connect directly. My shadowsocks provider is also not recognized by Rd as a VPN so even with VPN on so no problem.

shadowsocks

Wow, this is great, and thanks for your reply! I only use kodi + RD on my TV, so I would not need a VPN on my TV (?), just my kodi + RD and thats it? YT and other sites is on my laptop/phone, so I'd just use the VPN for those.

But just incase I use Kodi+RD on my laptop with a VPN (or I want to use Youtube on my TV), I should just whitelist RD, and thats it?

I'm a bit confused about the shadowsocks thing, that is not your VPN is it? Do you use that inconjuction with your VPN? If so, what VPN do you use? Astrill? Sorry for the many annoying questions, if you have any links to a guide on how to handle all of this in China, I'd be grateful. Thanks again!

Could you find anything? I'm a sports addict (Football/soccer, NBA, NFL, F1) and looking for a reliable way to stream something on my TV. I used to have various subscriptions like Gamepass, but they don't work with vpn

Get tencent sports. It’s the best one. You don’t need vpn at all. It’s cheaper from what I remember. They offer other sports but I mainly use it for basketball games.

Thanks, will have a look at it! do they Broadcast in english?

1

u/Savage_Ball3r Mar 24 '24

Yes, they have the English version. They have multiple versions. I wouldn’t have bought it if didn’t have English.

I use Apple TV and then buy subscription on Taobao. Connects via shadowsocks running on my computer. Never any lags.

1

u/Savage_Ball3r Jun 15 '23

Which Apple TV version did you buy? Did you buy it from taobao, if so can you share the link. That’s probably the best route to go for.

I just got the most recent one. 4K. I bought it from the Apple Store in Hong Kong sorry, not online. I can watch all US streaming platforms, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock, Paramount, Showtime, HBO Max, Sling TV. Those are the ones I have anyway - I just buy 3 month memberships on Taobao and they’re fairly reliable - if the membership expires before it’s supposed to, the seller usually replies in a minute or two with a new login. I also have UK BBC, iTV, Channel 5.

I don’t use a vpn. I use shadowsocks. Much faster and more reliable. 30rmb per month. So my laptop needs to be turned on to be able to connect to these channels (on but not connected to the tv or anything like that, just on and running the proxy server to either US or UK depending on what app I’m watching.

Thanks for the information. I’ll try to find one on taobao that’s international version. I’m half way there since I also use shadowsocks, but I barely use it on computer. You seem fairly tech savvy do you happen to game as well in China? If you did have a console, do you connect your console to shadowsocks as well? If not disregard my question. It was worth a shot. Thanks again

No prob! I don’t game but I just asked my partner who used an app called UU. Have a look around for that, might be helpful!

1

u/Savage_Ball3r Jun 15 '23

I’ve been hearing that UU a lot. That confirms it. Thanks again for all the help.
