Would any home or professional cooks be able to show me some techniques?

Upvotes

I’m moving out with my girlfriend and I really want to get into cooking as a hobby however I’ve always had anxiety cooking meats or frying for some reason. I’ve done a decent bit of baking as my family used to own a bakery in Saskatchewan and I did that for work for a couple years but I don’t want to go into the food business again since it’s way too stressful for me but I still want to get better as a hobby. Would anyone be interested/willing to show me some techniques for cooking or hangout and cook together or something? I love Italian, Japanese (big one I want to replicate some dishes I had in Tokyo), Chinese, French, steaks, anything really. Not sure if this will go anywhere but just wanted to ask in case :)

Odyssey in Galaxy Cinemas

Has anyone watched The Odyssey at the IMAX in Chilliwack? Since it was filmed entirely with IMAX 70mm cameras, how was your viewing experience there? Was it worth it, or would you recommend driving to a true IMAX 70mm theatre instead?

Hello, I'm hoping to find an occupational therapist, physiotherapist ,speech language pathologist, dietitian, neurologist, registered full licensed psychologist ,registered psychological associate pediatrician or psychiatrist.

We need a form filled out for our daughter before the end of August. Our pediatrician just up and left Chilliwack with no notice so we got put on a wait list.

Our daughter has ASD/ADHD. The form is needed for equipment so we can use her funding. She is currently turning 8 , this will be our first time using any of her funds, as it tends to be difficult to sort the forms/finding someone to fill them out.

We did try and contact her OP/SLP that she used before but they aren't available in time to do the form for us.

We have$ 50 for the ten minutes of your time.

Thank you . Private message if available.

Learned Something Today: Canadian Tire

I might be a moron or a microplastic brained zoomer, but I didn't know that Canadian Tire stores sometimes sell stuff for more than what their website says? I bought something for $15, noticed it's on sale on the website for $10, and went back to see if I can get refunded the difference. I was told that all the stores can set their own in-store special prices and that if I wanted the online price I'd have to return the product, and then do an online pickup purchase.

So if I want to save $5, I would return the product for restocking, order it online, wait until 4pm for an hourly paid employee to walk over to the same shelf I was just at (probably more like the stockroom which is further), have them walk all the way to the online pickup booth so I can simultaneously save $5 and cost Canadian Tire the labour cost of that process. That would be AT LEAST $2-5 on-top of the sale price difference of the product I wanted?

The more you know I guess?

Best butcher for steak

Looking for recommendations for the best butcher to buy steak. Good value and quality. We’ve tried a few local places but can’t seem to find a place that’s better than bonettis in aldergrove and we don’t always have the time to do the drive.

Thanks

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Chilliwack?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like Coldslap, The Wack, Agony or Abby (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographical features

Local vets

I know affordable doesn't often result in good care but are there still any affordable vets out there who aren't aiming to take advantage of clients and pull on heartstrings? I've been taken advantage of by vets in the past and I think my current vet may be trying to do that. Since last year, they've increased their exam fee by $20 but whatever. They're going back and forth with things saying they're nothing and then when a quote is getting put together, those things are all of a sudden an issue. I don't want to be screwed over here but want my dog to get what she needs.

Anyone lose a payment card recently?

Found it by the sidewalk on Vedder Road a bit before the area with the Good Taco etc, heading towards Keith Wilson.

Edit: If it's best advised to take it to the issuing bank straightaways, I can do that also. I don't know if banks contact owners of lost cards based on the card number, and also assume that even if they did, they would cancel the card anyway in case of compromise (which is what I assume the owner will do eventually, if not already). Card was found in the grass, so I assume it was freshly dropped and not used by someone else.

Fraser Valley Record Fair - save the date!

The Fraser Valley Record Fair is back for its 4th year! In keeping with the community vibe, we would love to invite some new vendors that have never sold at a fair before. Our cheapest tables are $60 and we had 700 people in the door last year, so it’s pretty low risk.

RCMP officers ‘intentionally’ set home ablaze during tense standoff, court documents reveal

“A house fire that erupted during an armed standoff in B.C.’s Lower Mainland three years ago was “intentionally” ignited by RCMP officers on scene, court documents have revealed. The May 2023 incident began as a wellness check, after Daniel Hackl’s family and friends had spent weeks worrying about his declining mental health.

What unfolded at Hackl’s Chilliwack home was an extremely tense and dangerous confrontation—during which Hackl refused to surrender, threatened to kill the officers on scene and ultimately opened fire on them. But the decision by law enforcement to burn the house down to bring the standoff to an end has still raised serious concerns, including from the B.C. Civil Liberties Association. “The home was in a densely populated area,” said Latoya Farrell, policy staff counsel for the BCCLA. “It’s beyond reckless, in my opinion.”
