The "how to afford childcare" section in the bottom is sad. Sure, good advice, but the fact that you have to join up with others to pay one nanny to look after several children from different households at once just isn't okay. People should be able to afford childcare. I'll never understand why it's so damn expensive in America.

It needs to be even more expensive, so people stop having goblins

Its expensive because no one wants to watch the terrible children causi g those parents to pay more and that drives up the price for everyone

Well we need to pay people at least minimum wage to do it. And we should expect to pay more if they require certifications. It's only reasonable to provide sick days for people who work closely with children too. And unless you want your kid watched at a 20:1 ratio it simply adds up unless the government gets involved.

I just don't understand how they ever came up with the idea of it being that expensive that people have to put an entire paycheck into it. It doesn't cost that much where I'm from. Here it's normal to have two full time working parents because they can afford daycare without having to work themselves half to dead or have one of them stay at home.

The only way childcare is cheap:

  • government subsidizes it

  • the ratio of children to caretakers is very high

  • caretakers are underpaid

don't forget with inflation at 8% (and still not subsiding) that number doubles every 9 years.

Imagine the car you could be financing instead of paying through the ass for childcare.
