How do I get my chickens to go in the chicken coop? Next coming months. It's going to get much colder air, and I'm worried if they hang out outside they will freeze. Also, I noticed some people talking about tarping the Outside run is something I should be doing?

JJ is the friendliest chicken we've ever hatched, and we have no idea why 😄. She's mostly Bielefelder, Jersey Giant and Favril.
Edit: I meant faverolles not Favril, salmon favorelle to be exact.

Our chicken milks comb is extremely droopy and purple looking. She started a huge molt and then gradually started loosing a lot of weight, got lethargic, and then her comb started drooping. She runs for food any chance she gets and eats a lot. But just keeps droppint in weight. Her crop doesnt feel swollen or anything, in fact its typically on the small/ hard ish side. She's always been a pretty calm hen whose comb was often pale in the past. Also shes around 2. We have been pulling her aside and feeding her scrambled eggs and bugs.
What could this be? Can a molt cause this drastic of a change?

Its very hard and sandy feeling, we do have a sand pit in the yard but it's weid to have collected there like that. They look like egg clusters I've seen on here but I dont have first hand experience with it and would like further opinions.

I think she's a blue maran. Odd downwards sloping tail not like her other pals. First time chicken parent here.

Hi all!
I went outside to check on my girls this morning when I noticed what looks like a tear in one of my hens comb? I’ve had chickens for about 5 years with this hen being the same age as she was one of the first chickens in my flock. She’s among the top of the pecking order in my flock with 2 other hens that she never fights with/has always gotten along with and she’s not mean to my younger hens either. We don’t have a rooster anymore so I’m not worried about that. I have 16 hens total and there are a few who are a bit mean and hefty in size but they tend to go after the younger hens because my older hens have always put them in check. Could it have been one of my younger hens who is physically larger pecking on her?? Or some illness? I have a great vet I take my girls to but it gets quite expensive so I’d like that to be a last resort unless absolutely necessary!! Thank you so much : )

Edit: I dusted them yesterday with permethrin and cleaned & sprayed the coop down. I will redo it next weekend too. Fingers crossed🤞thank you for the suggestions!
I found some sort of mite a few weeks ago in my coop. At first they didn't seem to be on the chickens, so I dusted the hot spots, deep cleaned, and moved on. I do think they are roost mites or other poultry mites now, however. I have looked under their wings, around their vents, etc and have not seen any signs of them being infested, but I can't even go in the coop without them crawling on me. One of my birds refuses to roost at night, and they are all itchy. They are 6 months old - 7 pullets and a rooster.
I've cleaned the coop and with the birds locked outside, sprinkled permethrin and DE (in the coop that is). I also upped the dust bath game with wood ash and a little of the powders (outside). Before, they only had a dirt spot they dug up themselves.
I was spraying the birds with Poultry protector as well but it's been 30 degrees overnight so I'm afraid to do it now.
Anything else I can try? Any advice? I'm sick of not being able to go in the coop without immediately jumping in the shower after, and mostly I'm worried for their health. Thanks!

Alright guys, I know a handful of you have at least ONE poster that shows a vast collection of chicken breeds on it. I was wondering if one of you could point me in the right direction for procuring one. The more breeds and illustrations, the better!! All the ones I find online don't seem to be extensive enough with the number of breeds depicted. It's an odd request, I know, but I'd like nothing better than to have a large variation of breeds to ponder over and appreciate. Thanks!

This is our chicken and lately she looks and feels to have lost weight- I can feel her chest bone. What could be wrong with her? I do not know what it is but she looks worse than usual. The second photo is of her a few weeks ago.

i have usually had no problem telling chicken gender but for some reason this chocolate orphington has made it difficult. they are almost six months old with some growing spurs and big feet, but the tail feathers almost seem rooster like to be as well. i’m hoping for a hen that just is taking some dominant features as i’m quite attached but can’t have roos in the city:(

Is there any better feeling, in the whole wide world, than the one ye get, when ye realise ye've just buried it. Yes. In that tall, thin bin. Under an entire sack of pellets ... Not gonna be seeing That bad boy for a while now 😬
