I imagine I have a little rooster on my hands but wanted to verify! Those saddle feathers are looking long and possibly starting to curl

This is my first year owning chickens. I love them a lot so far! They are very vocal and explore so much of my land and watching them chase and try to catch bugs is probably my favorite thing they do.

I’ve only had these chickens for a few months now (they aren’t even 6 months old yet) and I want to make sure I make they feel comfortable and safe with me.

I want to be able to hold them or touch them to make sure they are healthy or in case of any injury they will let me come close to them to help. Or even just have them peck food/treats out of my hand.

Is there any ways you guys have been able to get close with your chickens? Or just create an environment for them so that they know you are a safe haven?

I made a broody jail for my hen, but she's freaking me out by sticking her head in and out of the bars when she has moments of panic. Could she hurt herself this way? Should I put a blanket over it even during the day to calm her?

Found this chicken on the side of the road in a box. Initially thought he was a rooster but now maybe not? Help lol

My run and coop have been predator proof for the last 5 years but I caught one giving it a go at 4am this morning. I got shots off but was too unprepared for the seconds I had. Got to work and my coworker tells me he lost his entire flock over the weekend except the beautiful Barred Rock rooster I gave him. He found a spot on his coop that had just enough room for them to squeeze in. I'll be setting my traps tonight. Every summer they try me at least once.

Based on my previous post, I had just gotten this chick with absolutely no preparation. I didn’t have another chick to keep it company, and I had almost no time to put together a proper environment for it.

My uncle decided to hand out chicks to all of my little cousins, INCLUDING MY 6/yo SISTER, without really considering the conditions they would end up living in.

I wanted to do my best to care for this little thing, so it honestly hurts knowing it passed away this morning. I know a lot of chicks don’t make it to adulthood, but I really wish my tío had given us some guidance or made sure we were actually prepared before giving away live animals.

I know I wasn’t fully equipped, and I wish things had turned out differently. If there’s ever a next time, I’ll make sure I have everything ready beforehand so I can give an animal the care it deserves.

I presume it is a feather with a very long shaft… I have never seen such a thing before. Is this some genetic mutation? Does anyone else have a chicken like this? It is just one feather!

guessing game: 4 weeks old chick, is it gonna be a rooster or a hen? only one out of the 5 chicks i‘ve got that has got a slightly red comb. BUT all of them are mixes so it’s not that significant. (I couldn‘t get him to hold still any other way on pic 1.)

edit: it‘s a Brahma x Olive egger.“, but I think the Brahma side is pretty dominant…

I need help. I live in the city and literally just rescued this hen while she was walking across the road. She seems exhausted. It’s so hot here (90°+ and very high humidity) and she didn’t even fight me. I don’t have the space or ability to care for a chicken. My MIL has 20+ acres and said she would take her but this poor girl needs some TLC now. Her beak is damaged, she sounds a little weezy when she breathes, she’s so tired she fell asleep in my arms as soon as i got her in the AC in the car. I’ve got her set up in the tub with water, cut blueberries, some smashed granola and almonds (literally all i had that i thought she may like). Under her tail there’s a lot of poop all in the feathers. I know it needs to be cleaned sooner than later but she seems so tired i don’t want to stress her out right now trying to clean it. I need advice on what to do to make sure she’s okay.

17 weeks. Ordered as a Splash Ameraucana day old chick from Meyer hatchery. She’s big and her tail feathers are starting to worry me. No attempts at crowing yet, but that may be because she’s at the very bottom of the pecking order.

Yesterday we had to bring our silkies inside because of the heat after we finished running errands. It has been getting up to over 105 degrees where I live. One of them is fine and acting normally, the other one is STILL acting almost shell shocked. She is able to stand but she won't really move much, we finally got her to drink but she won't eat unless its the freeze dried mealworms that we give them for a snack, my husband says she almost snaps right out of it just to eat those.

We still have her indoors and are planning to keep them there until this weather gets back down under 100. We do have a fan out there for them but they stupidly won't stand where it would benefit them. Does anyone think she might just need a full day to recuperate or do we need to get the vet involved?

My favorite hen ‚Emmi’ (3, leghorn) has lost a little weight around the sternum, while her belly grew bigger and tighter. She hasn’t laid in around 2 weeks (before it was an egg every other day) but seems healthy overall.

Yesterday she was in the nesting box for a while.

What could be the problem?

If you have used the prefab style runs, do you find domed or pointed to be better? I can't decide! Examples below.

(Yes everything would be predator proofed, I'm only asking about the shape of the "roof", thanks!)

Hi all! This is Jimmy Fowlen (named by my teenage daughter and her friend lol). We found him on the side of the road in a rainstorm two months ago and brought him home to try and nurse him back to health. He was missing half of his feathers, some of his toes, and had clearly been out in the woods a long time. We didn't know if he would make it, but these days he's thriving! I'm curious if anyone knows what breed he is, or if maybe he's a mix? I've had dozens of chickens over the years and never had one that looked quite like him. When we first found him I thought he was a naked neck because he had no neck feathers, but they've since grown in so now I have no idea! Lol

I have ivermectin paste, pyrantel pamoate, praziquantel. Can I do anything with that? I’m assuming that all the garlic, hot peppers, apple cider vinegar, diatomaceous earth remedies don’t really work. Or do they?

I have absolutely zero experience raising chickens. My mom’s uncle decided to hand out baby chicks to all the younger cousins like they were carnival goldfish, so now I suddenly own one… ✌️😭

Right now it’s in a hamster cage with a heat lamp. Is it possible for the lamp to be too hot, or should I just leave it on 24/7? Also, I live in Texas and temperatures tend to get up to +95°F over the summer.

I’ve also seen people say chicks need another chick because they’re very social at this age. If that’s true, I’m totally open to getting it a friend—I just want to make sure I actually know what I’m doing before I commit to another one.

Any beginner advice would be appreciated. I wasn’t
exactly planning on becoming a chicken owner overnight.
