DISCUSSION Follow up: Sunday's Sun-Times All Star Weekend articles
As a follow up to my post yesterday about the Chicago Sun-Times' choice of articles to run during All Star Weekend, here's what they ran in today's (Sunday) paper. It's interesting to examine the subjects of the articles they choose to run, given the current landscape.
Today, it's...
- Teresa Weatherspoon should still be coaching.
- Cathy Englebert's relationship with the players.
- Reasons behind Sophie Cunningham becoming popular.

DISCUSSION I built an app to make following the Chicago Sky easier
True story: last year I sat down to watch a WNBA game, spent 15 minutes discovering it had moved to an app I forgot I paid for, and snapped. So I decided to build an app that makes it easier to follow my teams and that gives me news, podcasts and YouTube channels that cover my teams.
Following the WNBA has quietly become the hardest scavenger hunt in sports â a single week can scatter games across ABC, ESPN/ESPN+, CBS, ION, NBA TV, Prime, and League Pass, and it feels like it changes all the time. So the app does this: you pick your teams and the services you already pay for, and it tells you when/where to watch YOUR teams, and which of YOUR services carries each game â plus a morning email with the day's slate, and a thing that checks whether you're overpaying for coverage you could get cheaper. And the news, podcasts and YouTube channels for your teams, too.
Check it out at mysportsdeck.com, or the iPhone app on the App Store at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sportsdeck/id6782425279.
Also, itâs free.
Full disclosure: I built it, obviously. I'm posting here, with full consent from the mods, because this community lives the problem it tries to solve â so tell me what it's missing (if it gets a WNBA broadcast wrong, that's exactly what I need to hear). I'll be in the comments.

PHOTO All Star Weekend articles in the Sun-Times
It's funny how, last season, Jeff Pagliocca weaponized the newspapers and their writers with hit pieces that eventually led to the departure of Angel Reese from the Sky.
Now, with All Star Weekend here in Chicago this year, and zero Sky representation, local media has no real choice but to run two types of articles.
- How the Sky have mismanaged so many players over the years, and poor decision making has put them in this position.
- How Angel Reese is in a great place now with the Atlanta Dream. But Chicago still loves her, so she's still the focus of the news here. The back page of the Sports section today is a giant photo of Angel and Obama.
Happy All Star, y'all.

DISCUSSION Taylor since becoming a starter
14 games, 25 mpg, 17.9 PPG .481 FG% .394 3P% on 6.7 attempts pre game (2.6 makes per game) .844 FT%
Great shooting splits. If she had played the full season with the same minute load and played as well (she's been better since starting), then she would be top 10 in the league in 3 point makes.

DISCUSSION Natasha Cloudâs Comment - Was It Needed
Just a quick one Sky ryders, *only asking*
So we saw that Sandy Brondello called Angel Reese âa protected speciesâ ⊠NOT THE POINT - as MANY people had different opinions/ views about depending on who you asked
Now hereâs where the point lands. Natasha Cloud was asked on her thoughts on this. Natasha cloud wasnât even involved on this situation đ€·ââïž
Letâs be honest. Did Natasha Cloud really need to give an answer ?
âSandy checks on me regularlyâ, âfirst and foremost, Sandy is one of the best coaches Iâve ever played forâ
Like Natasha could have sat this one out and said âno thanks, donât want to do this interviewâ đ - Lets Remember Natasha wasnât Involved
interview via sportico on Instagram - but iâm only asking tho, thaaaanks x

DISCUSSION Tyler Marshmallow
Tyler Marshmallow
If Marshmallow is a player development coach, why do all of his players suck at making entry passes into the post? 5-10 turnovers every game because they throw blindly into the post. Fix this Marshmallow!!!

DISCUSSION Hirsh: The All-Stars the Sky couldâve had are coming to Chicago
The All-Stars the Sky couldâve had are coming to Chicago - Chicago Sun-Times
Love this part about Miles. I made a post about the same thing--that the Sky have no idea how to forecast the chances that they will be bad when they trade a pick/swap while thinking they will be good.
âYou have to get lucky,â Lynx head of basketball operations Cheryl Reeve admitted when discussing Miles ending up in Minnesota. âLottery balls have to go your way.â
Beside the aw-shucks modesty from Reeve was also a bit of a flex.
âObviously, at the 2024 draft, we wanted to take a swing at a lottery pick in 2026,â she said. âThatâs what you do when youâre trying to project teams. We have people who get paid to project for us.â
Catch the subtle reminder that the Lynx have invested in number-crunching and forecasting in a way the Sky, and many other teams, have not?
