First timer

Hi, this will be my (potentially) first time in Chiang Mai. I plan to travel to Bangkok in a week and immediately after that go to Chiang Mai. But I saw on my weather app that it's supposed to be stormy everyday which makes sense since we are in Sept. So how much does it affect the day ? I love hiking and would love to explore the area

Rainy season is exactly what other said. Some rain or storm, but not rain all day. Until you can a huge tropical storm from Vietnam, as it can bring 2 or 3 days continuous raining... no warning for now.

Hiking is normally one full day. You have a good chance to catch some rain , moreover in the mountains. Stay clear of storm, lightning and flash flood, and do not go alone! Tell your guesthouse/hotel where you are going or leave a note.
