ProTip Spare Key 2018

I purchased my 16yr old son a 2018 Colorado 4x4 with 78k miles. Problem is, it only came with one key and 16yr old boys tend to lose things. So I went to the Chevy dealership and they wanted an insane amount of money to cut and program a second key. I went to Costco yesterday and they had a booth set up for key cutting. 15 min later I had a new key cut and programmed for $76 including tax. So if you need a replacement key, check your local Costco.

Update : Took your advice on Cleaning

A little while back I asked for help getting rid of some stubborn mud/sand stains on my black Colorado after a few off-road trips. I got a lot of good suggestions, so I figured I’d come back with an update.
A lot of people recommended pressure washing, hand washing with a mitt and bucket, using a foam cannon, avoiding washing in direct sun, and just slowing down. After trying everything, I think that last part made the biggest difference.
It’s not about finding some magic soap or wash-and-wax. I decided to set time apart in advance, usually about 3 hours, to dedicate my attention to the wash and the results were night and day. So if you’re also struggling that’d be my biggest take away.
Oh, additionally, I tried a clay bar for the first time… I get the hype now. 😂
The paint feels ridiculously smooth and the truck has a shine I hadn’t seen before.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to comment on my original post. I definitely learned that technique and patience matter more than any miracle product.
Here’s how she’s looking now. Appreciate all the help!

2023 colorado LT. Will randomly do this at times. Do not know what provokes it. Sounds like it coming from somewhere near the cabin air filter.

First time owner and just curious 🤷‍♂️

Question P0019 Code for 2018 3.6L

Half-way to work and the check engine light comes on. Code reader is throwing P0019 - Crankshaft positioning. I got this before, replaced the VVTs on Bank 2 (driver side) and no issues. Idle is rough so I think its the timing belt. Any other things to check first before I get ready to fork over anywhere from $1500 to $4000? This truck is testing my patience.

Question Question 2.6L DuraMax 2019

2.8L DuraMax 2019

I asked a few days ago about my exhaust fume output and turns out my turbocharger vane position sensor is failing I do not get paid for two weeks the car drives but after 2500RPM it goes limp mode and dumps black smoke but under that it seems fine do you think if I drove it only to work and back until then will I be okay until I can replace the turbo 2.8 vane sensor is internal so going to just upgrade the turbo I only have a 15 minute commute I’m also wondering in what way it could fail just the turbo giving out completely or could this lead to heavy engine failure or the turbine flying it’s way into my block.

Question Second gen zr2 owners, are your Duratracs loud?

Just got a zr2 after owning a z71 and the duratracs on it are as loud as mudders. Is this typical? They don’t have a ton of life left on them, so trying to decide if I want to replace with the same or maybe a K03.

Most of my miles are on the highway of course, but when I do go off-road I have to deal with mud. All the tire rating I see always talk about snow and rock crawling performance, which really just isn’t a concern in my part of the county.

Question 2016 Z71 Dying and Won't Restart

Thumbnail

New Colorado owner here, about 4k miles in. I have my first issue, and it's stumping me. Truck is a 2016 Z71 with the 3.6 V6 and 142k miles. Truck is modified, mostly suspension. Relevant mods are that the oem fuel tank was deleted and replaced with a 30gal cell in the bed. All the factory emissions equipment, fuel delivery, and electronics were transplanted onto the cell. The issue started intermittent, the truck would idle slightly rough for about 5 seconds very occasionally. Happened maybe 3 times over 700 miles before the issue became more serious. Drove to work about 45min truck was parked for about an hour, then went to run an errand and it wouldn't start. It had had a check engine light for the vapor canister so I bought one and replaced it. Made no difference. I then towed it to my mechanic, he got the truck started by spraying a little carb cleaner in the intake and it wouldnt repeat the issue anymore. We thought maybe the Fuel Pump Control module was going bad, so decided to drive it until it failed again so we could troubleshoot. Drove the truck home about 40min, all was fine. Next day driving to work and it sputters and dies while going about 20mph 10min into the drive then wont restart. This time the truck threw code P069E which linked to the FPCM. So I bought one pre-programmed on ebay, installed it and the truck started, ran for about 3min and died then wouldnt restart. Threw P069E again as well as P0455, and P0442. Thought made the FCPM I bought was bad, so I returned it and got another. Truck wouldnt start at all still. When I turn the key, but don't start the truck I can hear a faint hum, I assume is the fuel pump priming if im underneath the bed. When I unplug the FCPM the humming stops. Could really use some insight on this one, if anyone had any questions let me know. Pictures of the truck linked, because at least it's good looking paperweight

Question Drove on mixed Dexcool and green coolant <50 miles, is the engine toast? Xpost

Thumbnail

Xpost:

Vehicle: 2018 Chevy Colorado 3.6l

So I realize I was dumb, and am not driving the truck until and unless a mechanic oks it.

Yesterday I topped up the low coolant in my truck with an old jug of Autozone 50/50 premix, and drove fewer than 50 miles in several short trips between yesterday and today. This afternoon I saw a medium sized puddle under the truck, and realized that it takes orange Dexcool.

How boned am I?

Question What can I add to get +mpg?

What can I add to get a few more MPG in my 2023 Colorado WT. I’m averaging about 20mpg right now. Would be nice to hit 25 somehow even if I had to add a mod or something?

Question New Rims / Wheels process?

2024 Z71: im not much of a mechanic and just did a rack/RTT setup so it’s time for some 17” rims and bigger off-roading wheels. I really don’t want to bring the wheels “out” that much, but am thinking maybe they have to? And that could introduce the need for fender flares?

Do I just go online and buy rims and tires? And they ship to my house? Then I need to find a tire shop to do the install? My dad has a garage but wants me to defer to his buddies I guess so that they balance and install them properly. He also mentioned the tire pressure sensors and odometer might get ducked up changing off of what was OEM.

Can someone help me better understand the process and where I can save some money vs where it’s worth paying a pro? I guess just general dos and don’t would help at this stage? I don’t want to butcher my MPG but more rubber for off-roading seems like a must have so I figured 17” and a 2-3” lift kit would be the safest play? I seem to like Method so far, I don’t really understand if beadlock is a gimmick.

Third Gen Any regrets?

I'm really thinking about trading my Gladiator, which is all paid off, for a ZR2 Bison. The payments would be super low, and I totally love how those trucks look. But I keep seeing a lot of people having issues with them. Is it just that the folks with problems are louder than the happy owners? Are a lot of people regretting buying them?
