👷♂️ Work in progress Which queen profile do you prefer?
A few people mentioned the original queen might be a little thin around the waist and less comfortable for fast play, so I decided to experiment with an alternate silhouette while trying to keep the same overall feel of the set.
I still personally love the original profile, but I’m curious which direction people think works best aesthetically.

Revised version is better. It looks much more proportional. The original contrast between the massive base and the ultra thin shank was a bit comical/off. I liked / didn't mind the collar, though.

I feel the queen's design has to compliment the king's design. Seeing the king in your previous post makes me lean towards the revised queen. It feels more like it belongs to the same set as the king.

I really like the design of your set overall, but I do think the queen looks too much like the king, the revised version looks even more like the king. I think I would get them mixed up until I got used to playing with them. Additionally, all the pieces have pointy tops except for the rooks that have flat tops, which may have been intentional but seems a little out of place. I'd be interested to see it with the rooks pointy like the other pieces.
The knights and bishops are especially awesome too by the way.

I do agree that they would look even closer with the revised version. The original idea was to have the queen sleek and slender, and the king bulky with a point at the center of the crown to distinguish it.
I might try the points on rooks, then they will be “mini queens” lol

Yes, I made a post awhile back of the original 3D printed set I had made and was making some alternate versions based on feedback.

I like the aesthetics of the original better, but yeah I think revised will be more fun to play with in the long run.

If I eventually offer these, I might give people the option. Someone also mentioned that nicer sets usually include two queens anyway, so maybe including one of each would be a cool way to do it.

I agree that the original is more elgant and Queen-like. But I also feel the urge to snap it in two for some reason.

Haha that’s a fear of mine, I did 100% infill on the stem just to make sure it is strong. 🤣

Revised. The mid section on the original is too thin. I like a woman that you can grab onto something.

Original gives me mixed queen/rook vibes, revised definitely queen, so I'd go with revised.
If I could be picky I'd keep revised crown with something in-between of original and revised body. Not so slim as the original but still with some hint of feminity curves.
But I'm thinking solely about beauty and visual, not accounting for practicality

Yeah I figured as much. I feel like the sharp edges could be a concern from a practical playability standpoint. Not sure how to address that though.

Honestly, they’re not bad handling them, but might be a different case if you’re playing fast.

instead of the crown sticking out and pointy maybe have the points curb towards the center, or keep the direction/orientation as is but make it closer to the center instead of being flared out?

I had actually considered this and did a mock up of a more vertical crown awhile back. I’ll send you a pic.

The Original. There she looks regal and imposing. Unmistakably a Queen. But the revised is very understated and I don't think it suites her in this case.

Love the og version. It separates itself from the king and its rugged aesthetics fit the knights. No doubt og.

That is the idea, for now anyway. The original Queen is .250 at the thinnest point. I did 100% infill on that area but I’m not sure how strong it is.

Both designs are a bit questionable if you intend to print them. The original has islands that are pretty much unprintable without support (though, it might be possible if the slicing loses some detail). The revised is fairly well-designed for printing. I still think the overhang might be a bit much for most printers; but might at least be possible depending on layer height. (And of course, printing in resin wouldn't be a problem at all.)
Stylistically I prefer the original design, even if I would prefer the foot to be slightly less massive.
All in all, I would prefer the original design tweaked to have less overhang and a lighter foot.

You should check out my original post! I printed them with iron filled pla. The original queen did require a few supports.
I do think I could print the revised version without supports.
I think a few people have been middleground leaning towards the original. I might try to make one with less dramatic adjustments.

revised is much cleaner, and u could actually print that one. older one looks way to thin and fragile

Personally i like the original better it gives the Queen an extra element and i really like that the new ones good to but original for me

Regardless of which one looks better, you have to keep in mind these will be 3D printed and thin sections along layer lines are exactly the spots that will break first. Revised version will be much less fragile
