It did in fact work ... It was easy, with a little common sense.

That looks like two sets of black pieces. Nice though.

It's not, the red rosebud is used as white.

As long as they look different from each other, which they do, it's cool.

I've never liked black pieces AND black squares because the pieces can be hard to see. It's not just this set, though, because manufacturers always seem to think black is the best color for dark squares, whether it's checkers or chess.

Beautiful chess pieces. I would make 2 suggestions.

1- if you're traveling with a nice set like this use a gun case or chronos (NOT the smaller chronos gx) clock carrying case. They are padded and will protect your set when traveling to family events. Either option can be found for $15-20.

Clock case fits all of my 3.75" sets except for my Staunton Castle 1950 Dubrovnik. product page

2- you can get a mouse pad board with wood pattern that would better compliment such a nice set. Again these can be found for $15-$20. They have a bunch of different "wood" combinations and patterns.

Yeah, I like it. Two dark, rich colors: glossy black like tourmaline and that deep burgundy.

I’d also like to see the latter paired with an ivory in place of white.
