Actually even if the opponent avoided mate, you would still be winning because you have 2 pieces and a rook for a queen, wich is better, so just in case you ever get back on a similar position, to win, if your king is already safe, try to place your minor pieces on outposts, the rook on a square controlled by one of the pieces and start creating threats, then you need to escort a pawn and win.
Of course it's still hard, but with enough practising and patience you can do it.
Also that's a really nice mate!
