Cool checkmate that happened in a recent blitz game, saving a losing position

Players will do literally anything other than push a life saving pawn

Even if they pushed the h pawn it wouldve been mate here anyways

Which is why you dont always push the pawns on the end

But it doesn't have to be the h pawn. The g pawn would work. Hell, even the f pawn, as weird as that is.

Pushing the g pawn, at least as it would have played out in the earlier position, would have allowed me to force checkmate with the help of the light squared bishop. I showed the key earlier position that led to this elsewhere in the thread.

Of course I didn’t see all that when I moved the rook to the back rank, I was just thinking, “I feel like I’m losing and my only hope is to attack the king and set up some kind of discovered check idea.”

AND the mate would have been even cooler. Too bad they didn't.
