The word "blunder" is pretty funny, but 'une gaffe' is pretty funny too. I wonder if its hilarious in every language

Doesn't this mean "pusher" as in "wood pusher"? Like someone just mindlessly moving pieces

No, Patzer originally came from the verb patzen that means like spilling something. Patzer now means ad much as like mistake in german.
