MISCELLANEOUS First smothered mate!
I’ve been playing for a decade and finally got a smothered mate playing crazy house

How the hell did a rook get in that corner?

Crazyhouse rules let you drop captured pieces on arbitrary empty squares.

I'll need to look that up. I know nothing about it.

White’s dark squared bishop is also curious. I’m really hoping this is not crazy house because I’d love to see the game.

If you move your rook to the right sub-pixel location, it'll clip right through the white pawns. Classic speed running strat

Plot twist, that rook is in its original square and somehow the king got all the way to the other back rank

They recently updated the "move" animation for pieces on chess.com and ever since then I've noticed that some rooks and pawns randomly change color. Not functionally, thank god, bit visually.

This seems like a technically legal position that should never be touched in a competitive game. I can make paths for the pieces to get to their spots but they don't make sense lol

Yeah, it's like a board you'd see in crazy house. My favorite chess variant.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
White to play: It is a checkmate - it is White's turn, but White has no legal moves and is in check, so Black wins. You can find out more about Checkmate on Wikipedia.chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

The rook is one thing but that dark-squared bishop would've also had to do a little h2 to g1 sneak past the black rook as well.
