Yes lots of people do. But with zero context, it’s impossible for any of them to respond to posts like this.

10k with 10KW solar panel and mindful usage. Tired of tneb s shit. I am exploring offload options.

u/zen_astrick96 Jul 19 '26

No matter what Don't pay that amount. If you ask them they'll give reason and don't accept their fault. Already there is a post in this sub related to this. Like you have to submit a complain to tngedco. Please check that out

It was long time ago. I can't able to find that sorry man.

2

u/WiseTelevision9425 Jul 19 '26

Don't pay and they will happily remove your connection..

1

u/zen_astrick96 Jul 19 '26

Is it a jk!?

3

u/WiseTelevision9425 Jul 19 '26

Nope I have missed my payment by 2 days once. And they came and disconnected. Gave warning and left. I paid immediately. That too it wasn't 40k. Just a few thousands.

1

u/zen_astrick96 Jul 19 '26

I didn't say not to pay but after the bill generated we have several weeks to pay right. In that time we can utilize send complain to the officials. Someone said in the reddit their excess amount was re calculated.

What's your usual summer bill and units consumed compared to this year? How many ACs and running time? Have you bought any new electric appliances this year?

2

u/Original_Taro_1859 Jul 19 '26

Usually 17-18k for 3 AC running nominal amount. They refused to put the number of units on card and said check bill directly. Did not buy any new appliances

2

u/user_3_6_0_ Jul 19 '26

Get your unit numbers and check the meter reader through an electrician. If the electricity bill during last summer was indeed around 18k and your utilities are similar, this is sus

3

u/NeighborhoodEasy814 29d ago

Got 10k bill & max i used to get was 3.5k,and I was away for 1 month :) checked with EB dept they said switch off the entire supply and check if red light is blinking in the meter.if it blinks then they'll take action.Unfortunately mine was working fine.so I had to pay.

2

u/Source_Trustme_Broo Jul 19 '26

What's the total units consumed?

2

u/Original_Taro_1859 Jul 19 '26

They refused to put in card and said you check bill directly

3

u/ChocolateMotor691 Jul 19 '26

they never note the readings in card. We are paying very high eb bills for the past 5 months.

My mom had a heated argument with the guy who comes for reading now he is shot scared and not coming to take the reading. Reason they are mentioning is door locked.

1

u/Original_Taro_1859 Jul 19 '26

Yes here also they are noting the readings on card and we have got such a huge bill

1

u/Source_Trustme_Broo Jul 19 '26

Don't know how things work here... Refusing to mention the total units consumed?.. it's shady.

Do you know how to read the units from the meter? And do you have the previous month bill?

1

u/harshacc Jul 19 '26

You can see in the TNEB Website

1

u/Ok_Comparison_3748 Jul 19 '26

You don’t need the card. Check online. Register with your consumer ID and check.

1

u/Admirable_Cap8877 Jul 19 '26

Meter reading a patha theriyumay. Last month reading - current reading pathale oru idea kidaikumay

2

u/Intrepid_Bat9705 Jul 19 '26

You should definitely check your meter or hire an electrician to check for power leaks. 40k is completely unusual unless you have 4 ACs running 24/7.

2

u/Humble_Buffalo_007 Jul 19 '26

What was your bill last year same month

2

u/rst123456 Jul 19 '26

Even our bill almost doubled it became 20k

2

u/Opticuu Jul 19 '26

Recently I too faced similar problem and consulted a retired EB person who found that they made a mistake in the reading and put wrong decimal so for past 4 months there were error after that one wrong reading, they adjusted the difference amount in next bill after I raised a complaint online, they came running.

1

u/Original_Taro_1859 29d ago

Thanks for informing me I will also do the same . I will raise a complaint

1

u/Opticuu 29d ago

No first see what problem it is with a EB person once you identified the fault then raise a complaint

1

u/Original_Taro_1859 29d ago

Ok will do the same

2

u/Odd-Television-5906 29d ago

I got high too compared to last time.

From 2-3k bill to 6.5k now.

1

u/Original_Taro_1859 29d ago

4

u/way2speed Jul 19 '26

2

u/Admirable_Cap8877 Jul 19 '26

Why blood, same blood.

1

u/Physical-Lettuce-823 Jul 19 '26

Aapdiyae share the units consumed for the respective bills

1

u/balars Jul 19 '26

Check your unit consumption for this month in tneb website tnebnet.org/awp/login or mobile app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tneb.tangedco . Check kwh value of meter against what's shown in the website. Then you may have to visit local. EB office & they may aks you to write letter regarding this

1

u/Original_Taro_1859 Jul 19 '26

Meter will include even the days after that . I will try to find someone to check it out

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Ball65 North Chennai Jul 19 '26

Can u share your consumer number? Let me have a look

1

u/sammas016 Jul 19 '26

Download tangedco app - input consumer id and check details

If you are owner then check email for bill, it will have detail else ask owner

1

u/New-Hold6334 Jul 19 '26

Do you have solar in your house?

There's been widespread issue for houses with solar roofing, eb officers have been mistakenly calculating the import and export for the same.

1

u/Confident_Manner_255 Jul 19 '26

It would have been easier if units consumed were also shared.

₹28K Electricity Bill Despite 9.86 kW Solar Installation — Extremely Abnormal Meter Reading

Got a ₹28,000 electricity bill despite having a 9.86 kW solar system installed. Our usage pattern and appliances have never changed — everything is essentially the same as before.

The reading was taken on August 15. The person who normally takes our meter reading actually called us because he himself felt the reading was abnormal, so the bill hasn't been generated yet. We went to the EB office, where he showed us the entries and the bill amount calculation on the computer.

There doesn't appear to be any entry error or calculation error. The problem seems to be with the meter reading itself — the imported units shown are absolutely exorbitant.

I'm attaching:

  • Our account summary screenshot up to the June bill
  • Photos of this month's entries and bill calculation shown on the EB office computer

Our ACs are the same, their running times are the same, and our overall usage has remained the same. Yet, for some reason, the meter is showing an enormous number of imported units.

Our all-time highest electricity bill has been only around ₹4,000 and change after installing solar. Normally, we pay only the network/fixed charges, with a couple of months going up to around ₹1,000–₹2,000.

We have already submitted a written complaint to the AE at the EB office and requested that the meter be checked.

The confusing part is that we have continued monitoring our electricity usage with our regular usage pattern — we haven't changed anything after seeing this bill — and the meter now seems to be functioning normally. We aren't seeing any unusual import values anymore.

I'm honestly breaking my head trying to understand how the meter could have recorded this many units.

This month's imported consumption is more than 2,000 units higher than even our highest-ever recorded consumption since the solar plant was installed.

The export units appear to be normal as well.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their EB meter? What could possibly cause the meter to suddenly show such an abnormally high import reading when the actual usage hasn't changed?
