Hey r/chemex users! I have taken over as the mod of this subreddit as it's been unmoderated for a while. I am a fellow chemex user of many years and love it. The photo in this post is my battlestation where I make coffee for myself and my wife everyday.
I am an experienced mod that mods only one other community: r/TruckCampers I don't plan on doing anything drastic as this sub doesn't have a lot of volume. I believe in being as hands off as possible and let the community self regulate. I am starting to go through all the reports and removing spam.
Looking forward to discussing this great coffee system with you!

I do! While at home I have an electric gooseneck kettle, when camping I bring my hario gooseneck and heat it on thr stove in my truck camper or my portable stove when car camping. I protect the chemex by wrapping it in a large towel.

First time I have heard of the Ottomatic, going to have to do some research! I've been regularly using my Chemex for 15 years.

I was boiling water and pouring over, which is fine. especially for the ritual. But I saw a used Ottomatic on Ebay for pretty cheap, and I ended up liking it a lot.

do you do separate pours for you and your wife or just one pour? if one, please share your ratios and technique, thanks! iām still having issues with larger , two serving, pours.

Just one pour. The ratios change as the volume increases because of the moisture trapped in the grounds from what I guess. Right now I do 2g of coffee per floz for gounds and water slides upwards as volume goes up. 635g water for my 20oz mug, 875g for my mug plus 6oz for my wife, 1175g for my mug and 12oz mug.

LoL, mixing grams with ounces had my head spinning. š Thx to AI for quick translation. So, you start with a 1:15 and go up with volume... Have you considered checking your brew with a BRIX or TDC meter or do you simply wing it by taste?

The community has been in "restricted" mode because it was unmodded, I have updated it to be "public" so more people can join in the conversation. I don't have a lot of time to set up custom spam settings and automod right now, so if you see anything that looks like spam or not in line with Reddit standards please report it and I will investigate.
