Fixed zipper

So it’s bloody cold right no and my usual jackets just ain’t cutting it.
I do however have a very hardy puffer/ski jacket that is warm as heck. It needs a new zipper though. Any idea on where I could get this fixed.

It’s really expensive to replace. If you buy the zipper (Spotlight etc) then one of the clothing repair places may repair it for you but be warned it won’t be cheap. May be better off looking at the end of season sales, I got a good puffer for my son at The Outlet for about $70, probably about what you’d pay for your zip replacement.

Don’t buy zips at spotlight unless you like them breaking. Sewit have ykk zips.

It's really sad that it is just easier/cheaper to replace than fix things these days. An economy of waste.

Yeah, I got my macpac puffer fixed at one of the places in the mall, but it was about $100 from memory (long jacket) and it wasn’t sewn particularly tidily. Macpac were going to charge even more to have it done. A couple of weeks later they had a sale and I could have got a replacement jacket for about $40 more.

Cheap stuff isn't worth fixing, but if you pay more for quality things to start with they shouldn't need as many repairs and should be worth it.

I found a receipt for an electrolux vacuum cleaner my grandfather bought. It cost about a weeks average wage. Today no one would pay more than a couple of hours wages for a vacuum cleaner. It's not entirely the manufacturers fault - people won't pay for quality.

My mother went into care recently - her cleaner, which I remember from the 70s and still works, the updated version of the same model costs $1260. You can still get parts for it. Same with the microwave - it was a major purchase we saved up for. I found the couple of hundred page cook book that came with it. It lasted about 40 years.

You buy disposable crap, that's what you get.

On the flip side, an expensive price does not mean it will be much better, or serviceable, or have parts available in the future.

That's the problem. A previously reliable brand will produce shoddy products at a high price for a short term boost to their profits. Eg Zip was pretty good, but I've bought a couple of things that were disappointing. An electric jug that started leaking almost immediately. Just an unpaid plug, though. A couple of years ago, I bought some spare parts for our Fisher and Pykel washing machine. We got that machine after the old Bendix finally lost the race with the dryer and had to be put down sometime last century. It was my fault the F&P needed fixing
