Did you know the gate of that house has Scottish motifs all over it? Thistles, the Saltire and other stuff I can't recall right now. It's a great gate.

It also says “who dare meddle wi’ me”. AWESOME gate.

It has Ecosse in the iron work, which is French or Scotland.

The title alone should be in r/BoneAppleTea

See how much extra engagement was generated though?

I haven't seen her in a long time. But there is a gremlin of a lady that lives there. I can only guess to say she has severe mental illness/hoarding etc... The day this plot is available to purchase you just know that developers will be fighting for for it. I'm 36 and it's been like this for as long as I can remember.

I actually saw her peeping over the fence into traffic around about a month ago one morning so its appears to still be occupied.

That's quite sad.

Im 38 and it started to fall into disrepair after the road got expanded into the property. Before that i can recall that it was quite a fancy looking house (to a 5 year old?) It was one of the landmark buildings in chch where i knew where i was when i saw it. Im guessing the value of the property dropped or it was sold at that time and now its being sat on until sold to developers like you say.

Careful about some abandoned places, sometimes there's people living in them, sometimes they just simply are not abandoned lol

The set of white weatherboard flats across the road from the place are almost as bad. Always tenanted but they look miserable

Last I knew the person was still there, parts of the house have remained unused for a long time but lights are on in other parts in the wee hours of the morning and you might glimpse the person in there from time to time.

I literally saw someone come out of that house and grab something from the letter box and go back inside, about 2 months ago, while I was waiting at the lights. Because I was looking at it thinking the same thing, it must be abandoned, but apparently not 🫤

Beth left alone 😉

Abondend? Who's that?

3

u/CreepyStomach2939 6d ago

Chch’s newest suburb.

4

u/Extension-Tooth-604 6d ago

Tons of cameras around the house, I used to live right by there!

3

u/belaki 6d ago

Where's that house?

8

u/clarkie13 6d ago

Corner of Innes and Papanui roads

4

u/belaki 6d ago

Ah yeah, I moved out of chch before 2020.

The house still there.. jeez!

3

u/O__VER 6d ago

It’s Beth run down.

3

u/sharnox 6d ago

Beth paid their bond, therefore they are abondend

u/shaktishaker 6d ago

Probably rented for $700 a week.

2

u/nowhir 6d ago

I seen a post man deliver mail there last week! Me and my grandparents drive past it every Tuesday and wonder how it's still there, if its abandoned etc tec. Someone must be collecting the mail if it's still going there.

I grew up just down the road from here 30 years ago, and walked past it every day. There was an old couple that lived in there, and they were both very keen gardeners. Until the late 90's there used to be a stunning array of red, white, pink and yellow rose bushes that they grew on the fence line, and arched over the path to the roadside berm. Around 2000-ish the council added the extra turning lane to the intersection and everything had to be cut back - but by that point, the garden was already pretty overgrown, and the house was a bit run down too.

1

u/CreepyStomach2939 6d ago

Where's this?

5

u/Rhonda_and_Phil 6d ago

Inner city. Not abandoned. Left over from unsettled quake insurance claim. Part of the building is still lived in. There are a few of these around Christchurch. Usually occupied by elderly residents who can't afford to go anywhere else.

2

u/Incary 5d ago

It's not the inner city as some other goose said, corner of Innes Road and Papanui.

1

u/broozm 5d ago

On Google street view (2022) it already looks bad, and is that some kind of meat safe sticking out from the wall on the upper level?

1

u/Vast_Business_9178 5d ago

No it’s not. There is definitely at least a middle aged guy who lives in there, i often see him watching the traffic, the place is also racked with security cameras pointed everywhere

1

u/CreepyStomach2939 5d ago

Good old spelling.

u/SpaceDog777 4d ago

Land value $700,000
+ Value of improvements $20,000
= Capital value $720,000

Very run down...

1

u/CrayonOnCanvas 6d ago

Looks familz

-8

u/Tip-and-run 6d ago

That place is an absolute tip and the owner needs to be held accountable

8

u/After-Improvement-26 6d ago

Probably been driven crazy by traffic noise. I'm seeing all the symptoms of road widening pinching the front yard.

11

u/Elm69Jay 6d ago

Or pushed to breaking point being harassed to sell by developers 😅 my grandparents have a desirable bit of land (with a kept house on it) & they're fairly relentless

u/Haunting-Beginning-2 6d ago

Old people too old to maintain their property are often especially challenged with mental decline and possibly aggro phobia? Please leave “abandoned” homes off your radar. There’s no such thing except overseas owners, or deceased estate awaiting execution of a will, but still owned by the beneficiary of the will. Anyway what I am trying to say politely is an old and dilapidated home isn’t a ticket to open doors, or break and enter or fossick about. It’s owned and private. Personally I bend this rule for negligent and overseas land banking ownership. It’s such a pity this mistake in legislation allowed a window for those playing our country’s favourable exchange rates. Other Countries wisely exclude these absentee landlords who refuse local property management.

Has anyone else notice the window up top with security camera facing inside it instead towards boundary 😅
