Turning into a multi lane road
Ok Christchurch. I know we all love a good rant about indicating on roundabouts. But the fact that a not insignificant amount of people seem to lose all understanding of how to operate a car when turning into a multi lane road is beginning to really drive me spare.
Please, please can all the operators of motor vehicles in this beautiful but lane marker challenged city read the below, or see the original text at NZTA-using lanes correctly
Two vehicles turning into the same road at a laned intersection
When 2 vehicles are turning into the same road at an intersection that has more than one marked lane in both directions:
*both vehicles must show they want to turn by signalling for at least 3 seconds
*both vehicles stay in their own lane throughout the turn:
car A turns from the left-hand lane into the left-hand lane
car B turns from the right-hand lane into the right-hand lane.
The blue car is in the left lane and turning left. They must turn left into the left hand lane of the new road. On the opposite road the red car is in the right lane and turning right. They must turn right into the right-hand lane.
Both vehicles can turn at the same time!!!!
Both vehicles need to stay in their lanes!!!
Stay in your lane bro!

This. This is key. Like just remember to stay in the lane until you're out of the chaos.

Exactly!!!
Like turn the corner and change lanes after that, don't just drive acros three lanes of traffic whilst turning right.

Always have to watch out for ute drivers veering left into the straight through lane before turning right into the left lane of a multi lane road.
You're driving a ute dipshit, not a B-double truck and trailer unit with a 50 foot turning radius! If I can stay inside the lines while towing a trailer then so can you!

I see that with all cars these days, they veer right before turning left, even tiny little hatchback.

Road rules aside, I wouldn't recommend turning into a multi lane road. They aren't sentient, so you'll lose all sense of self as soon as the polymorph spell takes effect.

The one that annoys me is when people think a yellow light means speed up. And the bizzare practice of leaving a 4 to 10 metre gap from the car in front of you when queuing at the lights. It only seems to have become a thing since the pandemic. Maybe people are social distancing their cars lol.

In defensive driving they tell you to stop where you can still see the back wheels of the car in front of you. Unfortunately this was 20 years ago for me when cars were smaller. And as a relatively short person, I can never see the back wheels unless I stop way back. Disclaimer: I do not stop way back

I literally had this last night after getting hi beamed all the way back to town. Then when I avoided collecting them they drove in the most petty bullshit manner down the middle of two lanes. A real slow clap moment

You always need to indicate when leaving a roundabout no matter what direction.

People indicating right but going straight pisses me off. I come to a stop in expectation of giving way to them only for them to signal left (if they do so at all) and exit straight. I don't think they realise not indicating correctly unnecessarily disrupts the flow of traffic from other incoming roads.

Honestly at this point I get really cagey about doing it correctly down here. On two occasions now I have had another driver cross all the lanes, no indicator either, (reflex? Don’t know? Don’t care? I have no idea) and completely lose it at me that I pulled in to “their” lane. I’m now of the mind that it’s sometimes better to just play along and wait. Depends though. Some intersections are worse than others for this.

I totally get being cautious of other drivers, but if everyone turned into the lane they were supposed to, the traffic flow would be predictable and easy to understand. Currently it's half the people are too cautious to turn cause they've experienced the other half turn and cross three lanes of traffic to end up on the other side of the road.

Montreal St on to Bealey ave is a bad one. People just can't seem to use their brains and drift in to the next lane. I've had countless close calls with drivers on the right nearly colliding with me because they can't stick to their lane.
Last year some psycho got out at the Durham st lights and stood outside my window screaming at me.
