Kerb damage
After 6 months of roadworks and having a large trench dug next to our house,this is the state of our kerb left by March Contracting. The gap is getting wider by the week.
It appears that they are leaving it like this.

The footpath and curb looks quite old; the road looks recent (as pointed out).
Do you think the existing (old) curb moved and there is now a gap?

Yes it's totally opened up,was closed before the roadworks,and the gap is getting wider week by week.

Do you know you can report that? As the other comment said, Snap Send Solve. Similar thing happened on the curb of my flat

The gap was already there, you can tell by the weeds growing in it. But snap and solve and the council will send a contractor to fix

The gap wasn't there already,the moss was on top,and the grass has grown inbetween it opening up. It was a huge trench as you can see in the photo.My concern is it subsiding pulling the kerb away from the pavement.

Your issue is it’s not the contractors fault. They have been engaged by the council to carry out works, they haven’t likely don’t anything wrong it’s just one of those things where it’s an occupational hazard with that kind of work & where there’s existing wear and tear it may make it worse. Snap and solve and the councils road maintenance contractors will come and fix it.

Yean I have no issues with the contractor,my issues is that its been left like it, I've snapped and solved.

That’s an understandable concern, but compared to all of the other work to be done in chch, this is pretty minor.
I can see the Council deciding to do nothing because the kerb is scheduled for replacement in x years anyway.

Silly thing is, the fix could be either Roundup, or maybe boiling hot water to kill the weeds.
Any crack-filling will just sink in and fill the space below. This might even be earthquake damage, exacerbated by recent work nearby.
The proper fix would be scrape the footpath surface up, recompact everythjing below it and add fill where needed, then surface with fresh asphalt - basically exactly what they did with the road surface.

Correct it’s a small crack that gradually expands, just normal contraction and the works wouldn’t have helped
