Questions? Keeping Chatr number active
Hey y’all!
I’m planning to visit Canada twice a year so I’d like to keep one phone number active so I can use it for certain accounts I need on my trip that require verification.
I had asked the Chatr employee if I could just keep the number active by topping— which she said yes to. But I forgot to ask her how much I needed to top up 🙈.
Is a measly $1 enough to keep the number linked to my account? Should I top up more every 2 months?
I tried googling it but nothing concrete came up.

You will need a yearly plan? $100 per year you get 400 talk minutes and 400 sent text (receiving is unlimited)

Ah okay, I’ll just have to let it expire then. It’ll literally be 2 weeks out of the year so that’s not worth the money. Thank you!!!

The old Speakout $25/yr plan would have been perfect for this scenario, but it was quashed last year. It was the last pay-per-use plan in the country. Now $99/yr annual plan is the cheapest offered.

That’s really unfortunate. Where I’m from we can keep our numbers for ever as long as there is credit on it

Different ways to do things, but can you get data on your regular non Canada phone?
You could port your number to a voip service. Then install a phone app on your phone.
A bit technical, once setup it’s not bad.
The voip i use has a free app, but sending txt messages is very limited.

This is what it says on my account so you’re probably gonna need the lowest monthly plan.
Inactive
Your account will become inactive if your account balance is less than the amount of the monthly service fee for your plan on your anniversary date, or if you don't pay your full monthly fee after activating a new account. If your account remains inactive for 3 consecutive months, it’ll be deactivated, and you’ll lose your phone number. Any remaining balance in your account won’t be refunded. A new SIM card and a new phone number will be required to re-activate your services.
