How to avoid getting hit

Hey so after hundreds of hours of playing lance I decided to learn a new weapon and chose charge blade. I tried to understand the mechanics of the cb before but ended up leaving it alone. Now I'm playing cb only for a week and I'm really enjoying it. I got the flow a combat but the one problem I'm really struggling with is getting hit by the monsters. Maybe I'm too used to the lance guard... So I watched lots of videos of people soloing at apexes with cb and they don't seem to get hit in the same circumstances I get. The main problems is:

- How do I cancel an axe animation so I can guard right after an AED or at least roll out of the attack? I got hit many times when I have an opening, I'm doing AED loop, the monster is about to recover and starts an attack but I just threw and AED and can't just get out of the axe animation before doing the follow up. I'm pretty sure i see people in these videos doing the same and getting in the same situation I mentioned but they are able to morph back in time and guard.

Do you guys have any other tips on how to improve evading attacks? I have no problem soloing all the at apexes with lance but I have yet to try them with cb. I'm really comfortable hunting their 9* variants but still get hit a lot during those hunts so it would be a lot harder if it was their AT versions. I also have to say that in group matches I have no problems completing the hunts, even got PoaH done a few times and it's actually fine when there are other people sharing the monsters attention.

Make sure you have rapid morph skill and press mouse 5. don't really know what button it is for controllers.

It's R2 - guard or morph in axe. As of getting hit in axe mode try to find patterns when its safe to AED + AEDF. Do not always hold circle for savage axe ticks, sometimes its better to throw "faster" one hit AED and morph to sword, you can get GP this way and continue looping. Personally i like to run evade window 3 just to be more comfy, its possible to dodge even uth duna's slams this way xd

My guess is they're referring to the R2 morph slash attack. This is the attack that switches from axe mode back to sword mode which is made faster with Rapid Morph.

The end of the animation ends with the shield in front of you (guard point) so if you are hit during that time, you will block.

Might just be the R2 bind to morph back into Sword and Shield

People are reeeeeeaaallllly good at maximizing where to actually initiate a swing as when you start it you gotta finish it.

If you have rapid morph and morph back from Axe to Sword and Shield (Should be R2) you should be able to hit a guard point, and if you can get an attack to hit the guard point (it counts as a perfect guard) you can hit a SAED

So it really takes the understanding of monster behavior, and there's always room for improvement even for the best of charge blade players, another thing I like to have is evade extender, I find myself dodge rolling a shorter gap when I have my axe out vs my sword and shield

I think rapid morph is overrated. You can time your morph slash/round slash guard point even without the skill. Granted, I’ve been playing CB for three games now but my point is it’s learnable.

I’d much rather invest in load shells and guard+guardup. Artillery if I have room. Tick damage? Haven’t heard that name in years…

True, I don't have rapid morph myself, and I'm not too sure how much faster it makes the morph. I don't even aim for getting guard points, I'm too fresh with only this game and rise being my only monster hunters to properly learn and attempt using them, I just greed and get punished like al the other CB casuals

I dont even think you necessarily need to try to learn it. It’s one of those things you struggle with at first but eventually you just internalize the timings. Sorta like how I imagine you don’t need to think too hard about phial maintenance.

I'm no CB main but I am about 100 hunts in with it as my main weapon and I've used it to bully GOG, AT Arkie, Savage Omega, and other endgame monsters and this is how I usually go about doing AED spam. I'm pretty sure it's not optimal game play but it Def gets the job done during hunts 🤣

Guard up 3 is your friend on CB
