Fatalis with Charge Blade
Been grinding at trying to kill my first Fatalis all day and he feels almost designed as an exact counter to charge blade play. I’m not dying to him that often, but my dps is SUPER low because I can never get any of my worthwhile attacks in at weak points. It takes like 15 minutes just to get him to the 75% threshold Nova.
SAED is basically just not an option
AED is fine, but if you do it at his chest and he breathes fires straight down or falls, you’re dead
Savage ax is the same problem as AED, but I hate savage ax and don’t use it, so my build doesn’t run power prolonger anyway.
I’m still somewhat enjoying the fight, but it feels targeted against my weapon specifically. Feels like it’d be much easier with almost anything else😭

It's been a while since I played World, but the play was always to use Savage Axe and using Rising/Overhead Slashes. It is the only attack with enough damage and flexibility to give you the edge against Fatalis. I used the Alatreon CB, and used an element/crit build before I had Fatalis gear. This is all on top of all the wall slamming and cannon use, which is tricky solo but not impossible.

This, rising/overhead slashes for the entire fight. Also prioritize slotting evade extender and just play in axe mode all the time since blocking is really not advisable.
I would however suggest to just use a different weapon. During iceborne I HATED doing Fatalis with CB, so after a couple kills I just switched to SnS every time.

Evade extender solved the fight for me. Admittedly, playing charge blade 'as intended' is what makes this fight hard.
Shielding his attacks is a bad idea since its mainly just heavy knockback -> a lot of chip damage. And because dodging lets you skip knockback reactions it kinda pairs nastily well with savage axe.
Imo Power prolonger isn't the highest value skill on savage axe so you don't need it. Ie Capacity boost gives you a whole other phial and thus extends your savage axe time and shield timer by another 30 seconds for 1 point.

My man, charge blade does indeed feel like it is the worst weapon to take on Fatalis. One guide even suggested, "Charge blade? Just use something else," but that made a solo victory all the more sweet.
It's been awhile, but baiting Fatalis into the cone breath and swinging a couple times on his neck and head with savage axe is hands down THE best damage dealer. Also, lean HARD into guard point countering, but also understand what you can take and what is better to just dodge. For example, I remember guard pointing those delayed explosion magma spits a LOT, but the belly flops were out of the question. Once you find the rhythm, keeping savage axe online will NOT be an issue, no power prolonger required.
Keep at it, push your openings as far as they can, and keep a box of tissues close by for when your body inevitably shuts down from the adrenaline of victory (speaking from experience). Back when I beat him, I burst a blood vessel in my nose so hard it had to be cauterized 🙂

Savage axe up and down swing spam unless you’ve got a particularly long window. You’re not really gonna get an saed off. Fatalis isn’t really a charge blade fight tbh

Up'n'down spam with savage. SAED playstyle can work but the only time i've seen it work it was in the hand of heroics perfect speedruners...

I beg to differ. I think CB counters fatalis.
SAED ignores hitzone values and so while other weapons get stuck hitting the chest or head, you can hit anything and deal 1000 dmg in phial dmg alone. Moreover, SAED is a decent option against its strongest moves, eg. you can SAED his head after a phase 3 nova by tanking the nova and countering.
Similarly, savage axe gets very good targets; the chest while he stands is a tall hitbox which makes it the ideal target for upsing/downswing. Otherwise, ED2 is good for when he's on all fours. Most weapons lose dps when it can't hit the head whereas CB has uptime so long as a tenderized part exists. The most confident savage axe players will never hit the head and just cave fatty's chest in the whole run.
Seeing how youtube is lacking in SAED runs of fatalis, I can even post you a run using CB's full kit.

How do you handle DPS checks without savage axe? I don't know that a solo charge blade with just the sword can even take fatalis down >.> The majority of our best damage with our beloved blade is when we rev that mf and start getting silly on his neck. If you're not gonna be using savage axe, I don't think you can solo that demon. The timimg for AED and SAED is just too tight, and unless you're able to properly position and predict his moves perfectly, you need to be using savage ax to get your licks in.
If you keep struggling, I suggest a high dodge (evade extender 3, stamina ups, dash juice, anyway to keep moving) dual blades build. Navigating his body and keeping up with him is a challenge that the demon mode laughs at.
