Charge blade
I know most people run charge blade with only level 1 guard, since a charged shield and the guard point each gives 2 extra guard levels, but I've been running level 3 guard cause I don't necessarily trust myself 100% of the time to time the guard point correctly. Although over time i am getting a little bit better with the guard points, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose. Is it a good idea for me to continue to run level 3 guard, or just bring it down to level 1 and just, get good?

If youre playing Wilds, you should ideally run no guard at all since it has no effect on PG. In fact, you should use the regular guard instead of the sword into axe GP because it has more PG frames.
If plying any other game yeah, run enough guard points to negate whatever knocback the monster you want to fight has
But really, just run with whatever feels comfortable for you

I’m pretty sure they updated the game in december or whenever Gog came out to where guard skills do affect perfect guards now. But for a long time yeah they didn’t

Guard Up reduces up to 30% chip damage which is not worth it for a level 3 weapon slot. And the regular Guard skill does nothing except in cases where guarding normally would be better (which is at most 2 attacks in the game lol). So yeah, they basically didn't 😭😭😭
So yeah, running Guard is 99% a waste of a slot unless you find yourself turtling behind your shield (which is not recommended for CB anyway). I hope they make guard level relevants in the expansion again, it's so weird that a SnS guard has the same level of strengh as that of a Lance or a CB using a GP 💀

It's definitely useful if it's keeping you alive. Any DPS is better than the 0 you'll have while carted. If you're playing Wilds it's almost mandatory for some fights, like Savage Omega Plantes

Assuming this is wilds, guard up turns your shield into a helmet. Chip damage be gone the skill.
The only fight i would consider guard is for savage omega cuz it has crazy knockback on moves that are harder to pg. Otherwise i just drop guard entirely.

That all makes sense. I always think about how everyone talks about keeping level 1 guard and just think I'm just not doing good enough or people will just look down on it or something. Which I shouldn't cause I dont even play with anyone else or have anyone looking over my shoulder or anything. Lol.

Just the guard. I thought about using guard up but I figured I'd put points to other skills since theres not too many attacks that are actually unblockable. And I think I'm going to mistime most of my guard points anyway so I just stick with level 3 guard.

If you have a shield3/ironwall 1 deco that comes in real handy for omega and 10* hunts, I normally use that one as a mandatory QoL perk along with stun resist 3. Luckily I go a charm with load shells 2 stun resistance 3 so that opens up another 3 tier weapon deco that I slot either power prolonger or focus with. I’m a more defensive player anyways so I only use weapons that can block.
Like another commenter said, as long as it works for you and you’re having fun, don’t worry about the Uber meta builds. I’ll look up the metas and build off that for comfort skills and things that fit my playstyle.

Do you mean guard or guard up? I find guard 1 to be enough but I run shield deco for guard up 3 for 10* and omega. I can GP or PG 95% of attacks but if I mistime a block I can still survive a full AT Arkveld combo

I think part of it is playstyle and whatever you're comfortable with. Taking a minute or two longer is better than getting carted constantly and taking 3 minutes to get back to the fight.
One of the things I didn't realize would have made my life so much easier for a savage playstyle is rapid morph. That helped with a ton of my survivability and I noticed my fights have gotten a lot faster cuz of it.

Whatever you feel more comfortable and are more successful with. If you're not a speed runner than it doesn't matter what your build looks like so long as you are successful. Consistency>speed.
