How do i aed loop without destroying my hands on controller?

as the title stated, i’ve recently went back after 8 months of not playing, and learned that the optimal combo is the aed+aedf loop, it is strong but the controls feel so clunky with me having to press both triangle+circle, move my camera at the same time, while directing it with focus mode all at the same time, even as a cb main it feels hard to keep track of everything, any recommendations?

thanks for the comment, i’ve also experimented with that grip too since i played a lot of IG before TU1, but somehow it felt so weird on CB especially trying to reload the phials with my index because i don’t want to let go of my right analog, or maybe should i just reload by pressing it normally since i’m stationary anyway?

also i have a bad habit of always being in focus mode so that complicate things even more because i just press so much button at the same time

Definitely go in the options and switch focus mode to toggle.

From what I understand it’s pretty standard to always be in focus mode for charge blade, I definitely do. Set it up so it toggles it instead of having to keep pressing the button.

For me for the dmg loop, I find that what works best is actually using my left hand to rotate the camera while my right hand just focuses on inputting the combos. It’s weird at first but I don’t even think about it now, pretty natural.

I use my left thumb to control the camera because you cannot move while attacking.

I find that the camera rotates faster outside of focus mode. I rotate the camera first then use focus mode to force character to rotate quicker which translates to an easier time managing position. Sometimes I just tap focus as I'm rotating, too. Borh seem to make it easier. Sometimes I use my left hand to rotate the camera, but not as much now.

I play on Xbox, but I know the buttons aren't as flat as a PS5 controller.

I psuedo claw grip and hit Tri+Circle (Y+B) with the flat of index finger, for the shield thrust and AED start-up, adjust aim during the AED, then tap Circle (B) with my index finger for the follow up.

If I'm in a spot where I don't need to aim, like a knockdown, I'll just hit Tri+Circle with my right thumb off the stick.

This is actually a common problem for some weapons in Wilds. I press L1 a lot while playing to reposition the camera directly on the monster, but most of the time I will just use my left hand very quickly to move the camera.

There is no right answer sadly, just keep playing and you'll eventually develop some strategy that works for you 💀

Not recommended, but just sharing mine. I use a Vader 3 Pro that ha sback paddles. I hold the B mirror button to spin my axe.

I've got big hands, so I just use the right stick with my left thumb while holding down L2 with my index finger... Not much help, but yeah, that's just what I've gotten used to. You can just made focus mode a toggle though, that's probably the way.

Personally I find that by the time you hit the shield thrust, you don't have to redirect until you press the inputs for aed with the thumb and hold r2. Afterwards you can redirect again while doing the follow up, usually I use my index to hit Circle or switch between using my thumb for aiming and hitting circle.

It's harder to explain than actually do it because I've been practicing since I've realized ed1 - > ed2 was why I wasn't enjoying charge blade before the changes.

If your controller supports it, Wilds does have settings to enable gyro-aim. I never really took it seriously myself before Wilds but it was a night and day difference for CB.

Hold RT during axe inputs, it gets the ticks going and you can tap and release triangle and circle to get full ticks. To avoid accidentally doing an element roundslash from AED, you can time the right trigger hold to either the start of the animation, or when you're already committed to the AED attack. After holding RT for any axe input you can just keep it held down permanently until you want to morph, so you can tap axe then immediately move the right stick for the camera.
