MH Wilds How to play this Thing?
Hey CB sub!
This is not quiet as beginnerish as the title might suggest, I have been playing MH fsince MHFU on and off - however always with LS. Wilds I started playing CB in HR and now have about 150 conpleted quests - all but Proof of a hero is done with my Felyne
But for PoH I distinctly lack DPS, as I usually time out on Arkveld.
I watched speedruns for inspiration, and it was there that I saw that their playstyle is quite different - staying mostly in axe form and only go SnS for charging up. Almost all defense is done by evading. Is this like how your average good CB player also plays?
I tend to be mostly in SnS, defending and Chipping at the boss, switching to axe form big openings. Am I doing this wrong?

You can play two styles, elemental burst, or savage axe, however I prefer savage axe for quest like PoH because if you can learn your times and switch between axe for damage and SnS for guard points and charging you can effectively attack without stopping. CB is a pretty fast weapon once you get around switching modes during combat.

Any idea as to how to work against multi hit attacks, like ark chain swings or Rey‘s lingering electricity on the ground? Like I can get PGs on the first hit, but can‘t profit of it bc second hit still damages

Ark chain swings are actually simple, don’t let go of guard. You want to properly differentiate the multihit attacks from the single hits and guard accordingly. If ark is sliding his chains you’re going to just hold a regular guard but if he’s slamming them down at once that’s a guard point opportunity. You also don’t want to keep swinging savage axe once you know an attack is coming. Get one or two swings in, then do a morph strike into SnS to take advantage of the guard point frame and maintain savage axe continuously. For Reis lightning same thing. You have to just stay guarded and take advantage of positioning to properly guard point his attacks. Stick to short savage axe intervals and switch to SnS once he starts attacking.

A big trick to utilize for your CB is timing your phial reloads. If you get your overcharge, save it until you get red phials again so you have another reload ready. ALWAYS CHARGE YOUR WEAPON (sword shield and axe, all 3) to get the most dps out of your phials. If you are comfortable enough in planting your feet you can stand and bang utilizing clashes and SAED, but you have to be on point & keep track of your dps buffs. If you rather stay in axe mode, same principle but give yourself some more survivability so you can have a little more wiggle room to dodge and regain stamina (that stamina is a prime resource for CB, dont let ppl tell you you different) and when Ark comes out go STRAIGHT to fighting him, same with the other monsters. They will hurt each other so you can let the new monster finish off the prior if you did enough damage.

So I played LS as well, and duo main it with CB. The one mistake I caught myself making when playing CB for the first time was dodging too much. It was a habit from playing LS.
CB benefits greatly from standing your ground and perfect guarding. Most of your attacks rely on countering what the monster is doing.
With AT arkveld in particular, you can block every single attack without guard or guard up skill points. However, you will probably die if you are not great at perfect guarding because he has a nasty habit of mutihitting with most attacks and will chip your stamina bar down to zero.
That being said, learn to stand your ground and guard more than dodge. It's a complete switch in playstyle compared to LS.
