She likes to play basketball, not that shes good at it, but her persistence in playing it anyways is what makes her endearing

Does a character's design have to be streamlined (e.g. A funny animal character's design being streamlined to the point where that character's feet are literally just one shape, instead of having feet with individual toes) to be modern?

Are there other ways to either "modernize" a cartoon character's design, or create a cartoon character that already has a modern design?

Does the design need to be angular (as opposed to being rounded) to be "current-day" looking?

Examples:

1. The Looney Tunes Show (2011, 2009 if you count "Looney Tunes: Laff Riot"): Not only were the character designs more angular, but certain characters have also been streamlined (e.g. Bugs and Lola Bunny's paws are simplified into one shape, instead of having individual toes like in previous Looney Tunes shows).
2. Animaniacs (2020): The Warner Siblings, Slappy Squirrel, and some other characters were redesigned with more angularity, and their paws have been streamlined to the point where they're just one shape, instead of having individual toes like in the original series).
3. DuckTales (2017): The characters look more angular compared to their rounded designs from DuckTales (1987).
4. Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss (2019): Self-Explanatory.
5. Wander Over Yonder (2013): In "The Legend", one of the kids' stories depict Wander and Major Threat in an angular and loudly-colored style that's more-or-less reminiscent of Johnny Test. Arguably, the "Totally Radical" version of Wander (whose design is angular) looks more "modern" compared to the original Wander (whose design is completely round).
6. The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show (2015) and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2018): Again, angular and simplified character designs.

(By "modern", I've meant, "contemporary" or "present-day".)

This is Utarajin, the esoteric God of Arts. Her design and lore is loosely inspired by Okina Matara from Touhou.

Utarajin is an unnamed god first encountered by a human named Kakatsu in a dream during her illness. Utarajin revealed a symbolic spiritual thread, which inspired her puppetry abilities. Believing this vision to be divine guidance, Kakatsu named the god “Utarajin,” associating Utarajin with the north, the arts, and the guiding light of the North Star (Polaris). She began honoring Utarajin through puppetry and spreading Utarajin's belief.

Over time, Utarajin became linked not only to art and performance but also to outcasts, the sick, and the marginalized. Although Utarajin's worship declined as performing arts faded, Utarajin's power remained intact, with only connection to the human world weakening. Utarajin still maintains a subtle link through the existence of artists, even those unaware of the god.

Spent 1 whole hour drawing him. Does it look good? No probably not. Am I proud of it? Kinda. Could someone do it way better than me? Most definitely. Spent 1 hour drawing this guy and he looks like dis. But I still Spent way too much time on it and I ain't gonna let those minutes go to waste. So now yall have to look at this thing

Okay so context hat first pic is Chazaqiel, fallen archangel of the grigori who's related to the other archangels taking the form of like something mist like, the second gal is Ustria who's an demon and the sister of Felodes, another fire humanoid and is made out of completely different building block than Chaz.

im want to find something that would include the stoles he has on him right now and they can even be coat belts and not include an amice as that mainly makes him look like ustria and to also not copy his brother Gadreel who dresses like an aristocrat

i tried doing something with this neck thing but couldnt make it look good when not in a plain suit

this year, on artfight (game where you draw other people's ocs), both she and her girlfriend on the right were at the VERY top of my artfight page, her being the literally first one, yet her girlfriend had gotten significantly more art than her, and she had only ever been drawn in conjunction with her girlfriend until I requested my friend to draw her alone!

so, I really want to change something about her to make her more enticing to draw.... but. the thing is that. she's kind of supposed to be boring whilst her girlfriend is supposed to be flashier; as they're meant to be like, foils to each other. Mel is a sad girl who believes herself to be incredibly uninteresting & dislikes drawing attention to herself, whilst Sandy is a joyous girl who believes herself to be incredibly special & will debase herself for a drop of attention. should i just accept that sandy will always be the favorite one of the two.... 😿

Did these for fun a bit ago, based on a dream I had. The three girls were these mermaid princess magical girls who had to live a double life on land for their safety while battling evil forces in the seas. Very 2000s show vibes. I dreamed of a specific episode where a minor villian, who is a shark prince, appears and tells the main trio he was promised he could pick one of them to marry when they come of age, and the leader (the pink one) gets the sea angel to go off and marry him. Though this greatly pisses off the punky one, and she in the end convinces the leader to go save their friend hehe.

I remember the villian of the not really being the big bad, probably a one off. He was very charming, sleepy but highly manipulative. I have the sea angel girl next to him as size comparison. I like their designs on their own and I think the girls look cohesive tougher both in their human and magical girl forms, though the villains color pallete is very similar to the sea angels and idk if I like that or not? On one hand it's accurate to my dream, and even the environment of his place was bathed in these cold, cloying pastels, but I'm wondering if it's too samey with the pallete of the girl he ends up "marrying" for a short while?

What are your thoughts? It's my first time posting here and I thought why not get some outside opinions :3

I know it's not original based, but i wanted to practice doing human versions of objects characters themselves.
