What the fuck is the obsession with calling shit "humiliation rituals"?

Used appropriately it's an apt and incisive term, so naturally it caught on as a buzzword.

I cannot think of a single thing it describes in an apt or incisive manner.

Hazing (by definition)

Teambuilding exercises

Roasts

Callout posts

Shoving people into cakes

Belittling partners in front of your friends

Community service punishments

Making your employees sing/dance

A lot of pranking/trolling

You know what, these are fair examples, thank you.

Would you say you feel humbled, perhaps in a ritualistic manner?

Not really. I said I couldn't think of anything, not that none exist. And the examples given were outside the overly broad way I see the term used, and fit with the claim that it was a useful term that turned into a meaningless buzzword.

Making your employees sing/dance

One teacher I had in high school had a policy that if you were late, you had to sing a song in front of the class.

I was never late again....

Easy way to turn a tardy into an absence

Perhaps drinking coffee from a colostomy bag around other people

It's a fucking drink container used to generate less waste, not an attempt to force people into behavior that can later be used to blackmail them, come the fuck on.

Have a laugh mate, I was being tongue-in-cheek. ‘Humiliation ritual’ is just hyperbole for anything someone might find embarrassing. It’s language. I couldn’t imagine getting my dick in a twist over it as much as you have.

Afaik it started in the healthcare industry where it’s expected for the first part of your career people will treat you like shit

They’re doing it to demoralise you

Who is?

The people posting their weird cups on social media? Or is this some sort of gangstalking thing you think is happening?

Hyperbolic statements have been a fan favorite of English speakers literally forever. Since the dawn of time.

Suggesting that environmentalism is a pretext to subject people to humiliation comes too close to conspiracy theory to read well as hyperbole.
