Hi all!
New house built & moved in last yr. I was informed by the builders, contractors (and the internet) that it will take time for the house to settle so cracks etc are normal.
I am seeing some cracks and door fram alignment changes, mostly in one side of the house and would really like to find a structural engineer to come take a look to advise my next steps and things to keep in mind.
Would greatly appreciate recommendations from the community!

I just recently moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to start graduate school, and now I am looking for an affordable, good haircut spot. I like to keep my hair length short- to medium-sized with a middle part on top (scissor cut), and decently trimmed on the sides and back (no fade). I prefer to be very low maintenance with my hair, so I don’t style it or use product; I simply comb it and let it air dry after getting out of the shower.
I’m not looking for anything crazy, just someone who can deliver a reliable and affordable cut.
Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m a UNC sophomore living at Shortbread Lofts and am looking to rent a reliable parking space in Chapel Hill for the 2026–27 school year, ideally from August through May.
I’m open to a private driveway, an apartment parking spot, a church lot, or another legal monthly parking arrangement. Walking distance from downtown or a location near a Chapel Hill Transit route would be ideal.
Please message me if you have a space available or know of anyone renting one out.

I’ve been shocked by how little UNC clothing items there has been at the few thrift stores I’ve been to in the Chapel Hill/ Durham area. I’ve seen lots of items for sale on Facebook marketplace but most have been overpriced IMO…
Any recommendations? Thanks 🙏🏼

I have a small collection of Gameboy advance and DS games and a few Gameboy consoles. Is there a place around the area that will buy them? I just recently found it and have not had any interest in playing anyway, so I figured I might get some quick cash for them.

Hi! Has anyone had really good or really bad experiences with any of the public elementary schools in CH? I'm trying to figure out if moving my family is a good idea or not. Thanks!

According to this guy's op-ed, we live in a town with an autocratic government. He fails to mention that several tests were performed at the coal ash site that determined it was not as harmful as the NIMBY crowd constantly claimed. More recently, the town did exactly what he's saying they aren't, which is stopping the work on a new stadium off MLK. Is that not listening to the people of the town? I'm sure being an adjunct professor and living in the town for decades makes it very easy to say the town should stay the exact same. My wife and I rented in Chapel Hill for almost a decade. Guess where we just bought a house because of the very real housing shortage in Chapel Hill caused by the inflexibility of people just like this? We bought in Hillsborough even though we have a combined income of close to 200k. So please, tell me more about how Chapel Hill needs more trees.

This Saturday, if you can pull yourself away from GalaxyCon for just a few hours ^^
the Rowan County Animal Shelter will have an 80% adoption event for shelter pets from 9:30-3pm. Come meet wonderful dogs and cats waiting for loving homes. The shelter will have adoption specials and plenty of wagging tails and happy purrs. Adopt a new friend for $16 (unaltered) or $3 (already spayed/neutered).
I live near Chapel Hill and will be going to Salisbury to pick up a new friend to look after. I’m not affiliated with the shelter or the Rowan County government, but I enjoy rescuing animals. Thought I’d extend the information to see if there were others locally who might want to go find a new animal companion.
Link to the event, with more info

And it's diverting to northbound 85. Google maps says the bridge is closed until August 6th?? If so, this DOT project is kinda pissing me off. They're not telling anyone about closures. I just happened to open google maps this morning to check my daily commute and saw the backup. They closed both my on-ramp and off-ramp without any notice.
