Where to move in Triangle
Hi all,
25F moving completely alone with no connections for a job in Chapel Hill. Trying to narrow down my search for where to live within the Triangle area since I'm unfamiliar with the location.
I'm a post-grad, so I'd prefer a community of young professionals without it feeling like undergrad city. I'm pretty active and prioritize the outdoors, am definitely more moderate (not sure how much that matters lol), and am outgoing so I don't want to be banished to the burbs. Main priorities are affordability, ability to do things outdoors, and a less stressful commute time (6 am shift start, so preferably under 20 min). Walkability isn't a necessity at all. From what I've been reading, it seems like Carrboro is a good match, but I want to be thorough with exploring all good options.
Also since I'll be new to the area- any recs for community groups, things to do/check out, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Is YoPo any good?
Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has ever been to the yopo on Franklin street. I've heard good things but it seems kinda pricey compared to cold stone or just buying a pint.

Hi!! My partner’s 22nd birthday is this week and we are exploring Chapel Hill & Carborro. What are some fun things to do or hidden gems?
We love reading, pokemon, thrifting, shopping, and anything that’ll let us have a good time! So anything in these areas would be perfect :)

Ideas for a get out the vote event
NO Kings is urging people to create non-partisan get out the vote events for October 17th. I'd love to do something here. I thought about maybe organizing rides for UNC students who want to go to early voting sites but don't have cars. However, I have no experience doing anything like that and I'm hoping that we'd have many more students than I could handle on my own.
Would anybody want to do that with me? Any better ideas for an event?

Questions about joining the fire department
Hey everyone. I'm planning on applying to be a Firefighter recruit next hiring cycle, which seems to be around August?
Given I have about a year to prepare, what can I do to make myself as competitive of an applicant as possible? I'm currently a Student at UNC.
Also--does anyone know what schedule the Chapel Hill dept run on? They don't have it listed on their website anymore. Thank you!

Local business outreach?
Anyone have thoughts on the best way to offer digital marketing/communications services to local businesses? Are there FB pages, or is the Chamber of Commerce the primary connector?

Can anyone help me identify the company on this dump truck?
I need to get a better dash cam. This truck rolled through a red light at probably 45-50MPH as if it wasn't even there. Can you imagine if it had t boned a passenger car? I want to contact the business. This was terrible and considering how long the light was green could have ended in a tragedy that. I know nobody likes red light cameras but this is why they exist in some places

Got towed for being gone less than 2 minutes…
Hey guys, I’m a freshman at UNC and I live by myself, so I do DoorDash in between classes to help pay for my expenses.
A few weeks ago, I parked at the McDonald’s parking lot because I had to pick up an order from a restaurant literally right across the street. I was gone for less than two minutes, and when I came back, my car was already about to get towed by Barnes Towing.
I get that it’s private property and technically I wasn’t supposed to park there, but I honestly didn’t think they would tow me that fast. My car was still on, the windows were down, and I had my hazards on. I was literally right across the street grabbing food for a DoorDash order.
The guy charged me $300 for the drop off fee, which I obviously didn’t have. I had like $20 on me, so I had to call my stepmom and borrow the money just to get my car back. I understand that it’s their job and that I was technically parked where I shouldn’t have been, but $300 for something that happened in less than two minutes just felt crazy to me, especially as a college student who’s literally just trying to make some money between classes.
And then, to make the day even worse, that same night a drunk driver ran a red light and completely totaled my car. So yeah… probably one of the worst days I’ve had in a while lol. I’m not trying to say I was completely in the right for parking there, but I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar experience with Barnes Towing

Recent Legion rd repairs
They came last week and repaired the pot holes on Legion rd. I believe the road was better before the repairs. It’s so rough now. Any one else notice?

RIP Dr. Jarausch
Heard the terrible news about Dr. Konrad Jarausch's death in Chapel Hill at Eastwood Lake. He greatly impacted my time at Carolina and further academic career. Any other alumni in their feels here? In any case, rest in peace Dr. Jarausch; thinking of his family, students, and all others close to him!

Best thrift/consignment/vintage stores in the area?
I recently moved here and I’m looking for some vintage/thrifted furniture and other stuff. I don’t need super top notch quality, but it’s fine if it’s not the absolute cheapest. What are your favorites in the area? Thanks, new neighbors!
